Big Shake up to compete with the big guns

Created by: NorthMan
Team: 2021-22 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 28, 2021
Published: Jun. 28, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
-Keep Monahan if Canucks match (Hopefully use the cap space to sign a decent winger). If they match hopefully its funks their cap management.
-Bertuzzi trade may be a slight overpay
- All rests on Seattle taking Lucic so that trade might need to be sweetened.

Nope, Detroit sure aren't doing that.

Swap the 1st with Calgary's 1st and swap Dillon with Valimaki and it might start the conversation

Bertuzzi is "untouchable" for the next three years until Raymond and Berggren starts to push people down in the line-up.

You have to change the 1st to your own and add another good prospect (like Zary) for Detroit to become interested.

I don't know what's more insulting. The offer sheet to Petey or the fact that you have him on the 2nd line behind Lindholm.

That is one of the most idiotic things I have ever heard, the flames weren’t willing to give that up to get mark stone.

Flames wouldn’t even trade dube for bertuzzi 1 for 1. Bertuzzi is already 26 and has never had more than 50 point so how is he worth dube, 12th overall, zary and a 2nd. The only price I would give up for bertuzzi would be the 2nd

Then you're not getting Bertuzzi. It's a flat cap and it's not even just about value, it's about our needs too, which you completely ignored in that offer.

Cool, then keep him and we'll keep Bertuzzi.

Dube is going the make like 2 mil and bertuzzi is going to get overpayed so I don’t understand what you mean about flat cap. The flames would gladly keep dube over bertuzzi

Its a flat cap and Bertuzzi doesnt even have a contract next year. If he had a few more years at the $3.5M then youd have an argument, but he is probably going to ask for $5M or more. Id rather have Dube at the $2.5M he is probably going to get and the bigger upside he offers.

The reason he's worth that much to Detroit is that he's playing 1st line for them.

No team in any league on the planet trades away their first liners without an overpayment.

The original offer sets back our rebuild with the number of years it takes for Dubé to achieve the same production that Bertuzzi gives us, both offensively and defensively.

That's what you're paying for.

What do you reckon he's gonna get from Vancouver? And my thought train was to play Lindholm the tough minutes and Petterson against team's second lines to free him up a bit.

LMAO Brett Ritchie played 1st line for us with Johnny and Mony. Give us a 1st rnd pick and a 1st rnd prospect for him. Yeah where they play in the lineup doesnt really mean ****. If anything that lowers his value because hes not even a 50pt player on a 1st line.

Bad players play on first lines all the time (not that I’m saying bertuzzi is bad) but Brett Ritchie played on Calgary’s top line, zack kassian played in the oilers top line, dominik Simon played on the pens top line and I’m sure there’s others just because a player played in the top lines doesn’t mean they have lots of value. Also dube played on the flames top line for like 20 games this year so it’s not like he’s a bottom six player.

Depends on term. From the rumblings, $7.25 million for 3 years on a bridge most likely. The issue with going long term with Petey is there aren't good comparables. To go to 7/8 years the price probably goes to around $10 mil. VAN has the cap space either way. Obviously the higher you offer the less space we have, but why do that just to tick a GM off when there's no chance of getting the player (the Bergevin special I guess). If you really wanted to, someone like Cal Foote or Ross Colton from Tampa would actually be feasible to acquire.

I based the offer sheet on existing Armchair Canuck teams on this site. In most Pettersson is getting 7m x 3 or 7 x 5.
