Detroit will take Brown off your hands for a 2nd round pick with no return.

What I don't understand is why you're trading him, you don't need the cap.

A 3rd is not enough of an incentive to take on his almost 6 million dollar contract for the year. I would ask for a first, but obviously the Kings wouldn't do that, so make it 2 2nds and we have a deal.

Lol, you and the OP thinking that Dustin Brown would be a cap dump is funny. As Billy points out, the Kings have plenty of space so it's not like they're under duress to get rid of cap. On top of that, Brown was the Kings leading goal-scorer last year with 17 goals in 49 games, most of which he played through injury. That's almost a 30 goal pace in a regular season.

Do I expect him to match that again? Probably not. But the fact remains is he's still a very important and contributing member of the Kings playing top line minutes. That's not a player that gets treated as a cap dump in trade. If anything, picks would be going to LA (not saying a 1st round pick, possibly not even a 2nd, just that there wouldn't be a payment to take him).

But, in the end, it's a moot point. Brown will be retiring a King and won't be traded. I could even see him signing a 2 year cheap deal after this current one expires.

I agree that it is a moot point, because he won'T be leaving L.A. As for the Wings though, it would be counter productive to add a 36 year old winger right now. Like it makes absolutely no sense from the Red Wings perspective. Yzerman is trying to build a roster with players that are 25 or younger. We are drafting and developing players in hopes that the rebuild can be completed that way. Adding a 36 year old makese literally no sense, especially if the Wings are losing assets to make a trade work. So many people on this site think Detroit is just a dumping ground for bad contracts, and will simply add players because we have cap space. If teams want us to take on bad contracts, they need to give us assets to do so, otherwise it makes no sense.

Look at M.Staal last year. He was still a serviceable NHL player at that point, but the Rangers still had to tag on a 2nd to make the deal work for Detroit. I agree Brown is not a complete cap dump, and sure some team out there could probably use him, but that team is not Detroit.

Hey, as a Kings fan I completely relate to the being "a dumping ground for bad contracts". Leafs fans on here want LA to take Dermott/Kerfoot/Holl so badly it's almost funny. MTL fans want to dump Kulak or Drouin on us, as if the latter hasn't been on LTIR for the better part of the past 2 seasons. And they want us to pay to do it! I feel your pain, my friend.

OP clearly isn't a Kings fan, and that's okay. I was just pointing out why the Kings wouldn't do it. I'm 100% behind you when I don't think it makes sense for Detroit as well, because as I said, it wouldn't be a dump and there would need to be assets going to LA in any hypothetical Brown trade.

Well from Detroit's pov he is a cap dump. He has maybe a season or 2 left since is he is 36. Does he make Detroit a contender or even a playoff team? But I do agree he retires a King.

Lol I've seen my share of Dermott to the Wings proposals on here as well. The amount of trades involving Tyler Bertuzzi to the Leafs is getting pretty funny. I guess they really want Bert...
