LA is trying to compete. They already have the best prospect pool. A 1st rounder, 8th overall in a not-so-talented draft isn't gonna change their prospect pool so much.

if you think this draft is bad because Power isn't as good as Lafreniere then you are being ignorant. Mason McTavish (expected to go between 8 and 12) is just as good a prospect as Marco Rossi for example

It doesn't make a bee's fart of difference that people think this is "a not-so-talented draft" if the eighth overall selection turns into the next William Nylander. I simply refuse to believe that everyone drafted after the seventh selection is going to be a bust.

It’s a very deep draft. Not the 1-3 superstars at the top.

    But very deep.

This is the year that the 8th overall has a chance to be just as good as the 2nd-3rd pick. Or the 15th overall just as good or better than the 5th

Dumb idea, either way, to think one year of Rielly is worth the 8th overall pick. Weak draft or not. And the “weak draft” take is debatable

Kings don't want rentals. They're also not gonna give the 8th overall pick for Morgan Rielly. The draft might not be the most stacked but there are still some elite players in the top 10 selection. If we're gonna give up the 8th overall pick, the kings would not mind also throwing in a good prospect in order to get a top defenseman with a long term contract. There may be a good chance Rielly is move during this off season but it won't be the Kings he's going too, especially if the asking price is a first round pick.

For the life of me, I do not understand why people conflate "This is a difficult draft to analyze because it's hard to rate one particular prospect over another" with "Let's throw away any pick that isn't in the top two."

It's just an odd package. I don't see what those spare parts and mid-round picks do for us. Strome has proved himself with consistency and play at 2C.

Don't see us moving him for anything less than a 1st.

Ya, and what’s the difference b/ween Power and Dahlin or Ekbald or Eric Johnson. All 3 were 1st overall selections.

    Were those drafts weak too??

Those draft’s forwards were guys like Nylander, Draistail, Pastrnak, Brady Tkuchuk, Reinhart, Ehlers, Toews, N.Backstrom, C.Giroux, Kessel, Marchand, D.Larkin, A.Svev.

All drafted after the #1 overall D-man was taken.

I think if your team has early 2nd round picks, this draft is so deep, u might as well consider those the same as late 1st round picks in any other draft.

8th OA will be traded for an elite player in a bigger package.

Its silly to me, ive seen people say Beniers is a future 3rd liner. IMO he's Jonathan Toews 2.0, he has so much drive to win in his game and is an excellent 2-way player

In my opinion, it’s a deep draft.

No matter what, the draft “experts” arnt fortune tellers. We won’t know if it was a “weak” or “stong” draft until 3-5 years from now.
