Sorry, as much as the Canadian media likes the clicks this has generated, Edmonton's not adding $5,538,462 to their cap for the next two seasons for a 2-3LD while giving up assets to do so.

In a flat cap world, can anyone explain, from a hockey perspective, how this makes sense?

If you had to go with "UR GM...", I guess there isn't a hockey reason to make the deal.

Sucks for Duncan Keith, but Edmonton's not the team that should be doing him favors.

Easy pass.

if u want a hockey reason you guys got swept so your front office has come out and said they want some veteran presence Keith has fallen off due to playing high minutes so going to Edmonton where he play lower minutes would greatly benefit him he was top 3 in broken up passes among d man last year hed be a good d men to pair up with a rookie d man to develop Chicago isn't gonna take that much money back as they want to make a push for jones or Hamilton so don't be surprised when Chicago doesn't take a lot if any money back

He sounds good. You should keep him.

Edmonton has a lot of cap space - with the flat cap, they could pick up a less expensive veteran option that's not going to cost over $5m on the cap.

That, and they don't have to give up any assets.

Nope, from what I've read, I guess Keith wants to be closer to his son in BC, and looks at the team with McDavid, Draisaitl, and all of the young players and wants to try for another cup.

Both of us agree. I think he should play for the next two seasons in Chicago, and while it sucks he can't be closer to his son, sometimes you have to honor the contract you signed.

Good luck with him!

Not front runner only option for the Hawks this is a trade Edmonton 100% doesn’t need to make the only reason it’s a talking point is Kieth as ask for this, Holland’s only making this trade if he sheds himself of Neal, or Koskinen and Turris combined and Hawks would still need to retain on that combination as it’s not the first yr of Kieths deal that is the problem it’s the second as it poses a problem in a Nurse extension
Hawks are the ones exploring this deal not Edmonton
