Chicago Blackhawks if they trade for Seth Jones

Created by: AndrewMan
Team: 2021-22 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 8, 2021
Published: Jul. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
While this team still isn’t great, the return of Jonathan Toews and investing time into getting a legitimate 1A/1B goalie system should help the Blackhawks out massively, and the cap space they have is largely preserved for the number or free agents they have next year

You think so? I thought Dylan Strome would be a big enough name to guarantee a first round in return. I’ll probably go in and change the 4th being sent over to a 2nd or 3rd

There’s rumours going around that Holland is really big on Keith, and Edmonton’s front office is not an analytical one at all. I’ll probably still go back and change the return Edmonton is getting, and increase what they get back.

My counter for Jones (no extension):

- Boqvist, Reichel, 2022 1st, 2021 3rd.

Even then, I’m curious how it compares to other packages. If that COL rumor turns out to be true, I don’t think you guys can top it.

Chicago has confirmed that they aren’t giving up too much of their future for Jones. Boqvist and Reichel are big parts of their future. Colorado is unlikely to target any big names this summer as they have Landeskog, Makar and Grubauer to sign.

Winnipeg wouldn't look at Dehaan unless you're keeping 50% of his salary and looking for a 5th or lower pick max. Murphy would be interesting though.

Winnipeg is desperate for a top 4 defensemen, they’d do alot to get one. Besides, it’s basically a rental, and they have like 20mil in cap this year.

Yes, the Jets are looking for a top 4 defenseman, that's why I said Murphy would be of interest. An expensive replacement level guy like DeHaan will cost you assets to move with retention and big assets without retention.

Didn't you hear, Pierre McGuire said that only Edmonton and Toronto rely on analytics and that's why they went out in the first round.

On a more serious note, Holland is big on Keith but he's also pretty big on not moving firsts. My counter would be Jones + 2nd (2022) for Keith (50% retained) + Strome.

Easy no. Hawks don't need to include Strome to move Keith. He would be additive and Strome is worth more then a later round 2nd that's for sure.

He's not a cap dump. Hawks aren't the one's wanting to "dump him" as they have plenty of cap space and need him. However, Keith wants to move closer to his family and is requesting a trade; Hawks are entertaining it out of respect for him and what he's done.

And that "so called" cap dump will be playing on your second line as your #4 maybe even 3rd best guy....does that say more about Keith or less about the Oilers?

What I’m concerned with is Chicago’s # of centre’s. We’ve got Dach, Strome, Toews, Reichel (although it looks like he’ll play wing in NA), Suter, Borgstrom. I don’t know if Strome has a place in chicago anymore, especially with his lacklustre season.

I’ll think about it, but until then,I think De Haan is the guy who’ll be moved.

Strome is never worth a 1st. Keith is a near-cap dump not a cap dump. 5 million for a guy who was trash defensively and had 4 goals this season (got outscored by Larsson this season.)
We would have Neal than Keith.

I could see Strome being worth a bit more than a 2nd (add in a 4th or mid-tier prospect) but not a 1st. He scored at production rates that you'd want from a good 3rd liner last year (35P/82GP). He had a similar stat line to Alex Chiasson and Dominik Kahun both of whom made less money and will re-sign for less than Strome makes.

Strome had 38 in 58 the year before, and also has connections with Mcdavid. Not to mention 51 in 58 in 2018-2019

Did he have a point per game season? If yes, then I'd start to consider a 1st for Strome

Clearly you haven't watched Keith play much if at all. Neal is useless and would be bought out by any team, Keith would be on your 2nd line for good reason; stark contrast in value there.

Strome is worth a late 1st all day.

Strome was in and out of the lineup due to injury last year. Context matters when evaluating a player, stats sheets never tell the full story.
