Bruins a year from now

Created by: hairyberry
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 9, 2021
Published: Jul. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think they have another run in them for this coming season, but unless they can pull off some miraculous trades to get younger while staying competitive, I hope that soon after next season they will have the stones to do a hard rebuild instead of desperately clinging on to mediocrity. Nothing worse than being too good to acquire high draft picks/trade for prospects, while simultaneously being too bad to realistically make it anywhere in the playoffs. Not sure how realistic the Burakovsky signing in particular is, but they'll probably use all the cap savings to go after some younger player who is a UFA.

Additional Details:
Would be so upset to see him go, but he'd be the only traceable guy with high value (other than Bergeron, who they probably will never trade). Marchand, despite the M-NTC, allows the trade to go to a contender and play with his Nova Scotia training buddy Crosby.

Maybe you didn't notice but this is for the 2022-2023 season and assumes they're rebuilding. Smith will be well into his 30s with 1 year left on his deal. It wouldn't make sense to keep him in a rebuild.

Hard to say since I don't know what the Oilers roster looks like in a year but I hope our 3C spot is filled before then. I would think a 32YO 3C is probably more likely to grab a 3rd than a 2nd but that's splitting hairs at this point.

Yes and no. They could probably keep the window open a little longer, but the longer they wait, the less trade value they'll have in order to get prospects and picks. For example Smith will be gone, Marchand will be approaching 35, Gryz will have 1 year left instead of 2, etc.

Smith is a right wing, not a centre. I figured he'd be a good fit because he's a Coleman/Hyman type of player that wins puck battles and does the dirty work on his line and allows star players to do their thing

That's insane, he's got 3 years left at $6m (a bit more than half of what he'd make as free agent right now). There are 30 teams in the league who would easily beat that offer for Marchand.

He's certainly worth that but I'm hoping he'll keep Boston's tradition of pay cuts going.

It costs a 1st to dump two years at $6m of Myers, and then Debrusk for Woo. Is Woo really that good? I thought he was a B prospect, my bad if he's not.

I think you're probably right, I just personally think this is what they should be doing for the long term benefit of the team. I don't think they'll be winning any championships in 2023 and beyond when Krejci and Rask and gone and Marchand/Bergeron are 35+.

Why is it that every almost every Boston ACGM has Columbus trading for Ritchie or Kase, when they have no use for another wing?

Kase makes no sense I agree. I can't speak for others but I personally figured Ritchie fit the style of the team. In any case who the trade is with isn't important, it could be any team who wants him, someone will pay a 3rd for some #grit

than let them. pens wont even consider your offer marchand a great player but age past antics and overall value say his value isnt that. he has 2-3 years at left at his current level if that, Some oyhrt team can overpay for him

He might be a “fit” in Columbus, but with Laine, Bjorkstrand, Atkinson, Nyquist, Texier and at this point Robinson, there isn’t really a need for Columbus to trade for a wing, they have plenty of them and paying a 3rd for a guy to be on the 4th line isn’t smart for a team who has the worst/smallest prospect pool in the league.

Idk why you marchand's value is so down. He was 3rd in points this year and is widely considered a top 5 LW in the league.

I don’t see why he would. He already did that on his bridge. I imagine he’ll be looking to get max value if he’s getting 8 years. I’d be thrilled with anything a penny under 11
