All the cap details are there in the post. They come out not taking on any cap. Dunn is an upgrade on Pettersson that would take a cheaper bridge deal, and Matheson is a 3rd pairing D, let's be real.

Kings decline. Kings give up basically two 2nd rounders, AA, to get Zucker, +1M, and a bad defensive contract who can't play top pair LD (what they need). Also, your math is off, the Kings take on $10.5M. Bad trade for the Kings even if they were doing it for future considerations.

Pittsburgh only has $1,000,000 in cap space, So unless St Louis takes on cap for cap Pittsburgh can't afford both Dunn and Tarasenko.

I think you're misunderstanding your give/get quite a bit. All you're giving up is AA and Grans, then upgrading your 3rd to a 2nd.
Zucker would be an upgrade on AA at 2LW.
Pettersson is a league standard 2LD, and this deal would also be made under the assumption Maatta is dealt.
I also subtracted Athanasiou's projected cap hit, so no, my math isn't incorrect.

Athanasiou will not be qualified, the Kings are allowing him to go to free agency, they already offered him below $2M. Zucker is an upgrade over AA, but the Kings can find several better options with $6.5M of cap space (Saad, Schwartz, Hyman, etc.). Pettersson averaged 3rd line minutes and has definitely digressed from previous seasons. No thanks.

He has the $1 million retained on Tarasenko on the "LAK gets" line, so he subtracted it from $9,525,175, instead of on the "LAK gives" line, where he should have added it to get to your $10.5M figure, and then inflates the amount we are going to re-sign Athanasiou by about 100%.

$10.5 - $2.5 (what they think AA will sign for) was their logic, but after signing Arvidsson I think it's a low chance that AA signs with the Kings after they let his rights go (we'd get killed in arbitration, his goal averages per games played sees him as a 2.5-3M player.)

Athanasiou's projected cap hit should be no higher than $1.25 million.

We already have a claim on that second you are so graciously "giving" us.

Grans, at this stage in his development, is already worth more to us (even if he's a bust) than Pettersson at his high cap hit for a middle defender, because we don't need him. Similarly, we don't need Zucker now that we have Arvidsson.

Zucker (5.5) + Pettersson (4.025) + Tarasenko retention (1) = 10.525 then subtract Athanasiou (2.5) = 8.025

Marcus Pettersson from JFresh

Also, it seems like Pettersson doesn't get much deserved credit and most people just assume has an overpaid bottom pairing, but his numbers are quite good. I think he could come into a bigger role and succeed.

But I get it, the offer isn't all that exciting for LA, I just think it could pay off nicely especially considering you're not giving up a whole lot aside from cap.
