Likely a boring offseason

Created by: tsyls

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 25, 2021

Description
Jets will likely have another boring offseason, with Savard likely signing in MTL it’s time to look elsewhere. Added Tatar on a 1 year prove it deal. Also a hot take, but I think kovacevic (listed as LD but shoots right) will surprise and really take a run at the 3rd RD spot. I spoke with someone within Jets management who was very impressed with his season in the AHL. Source: Trust Me (in all seriousness I did actually speak to someone within management who liked him)

If they go out and make a signing at D, it’s likely another bottom pairing guy so I didn’t even bother and went with youth. Although Maurice would never let this happen LOL.

I think it’s likely Copp gets close to the same deal as goodrow. Heinola likely starts in the AHL again unless he has a great camp. Perfetti likely gets to play in the AHL again as he played over 20 games last year, he’ll get his 9 games with the Jets.

Lewis is brought back to sit in the PB. Signed a better 4th line depth guy in Sutter who can PK and be a good option. (Let me know if there’s a better choice, or if he needs more $)

Jets usually like to keep some cap space to make moves throughout the year and at the TDL.

Maybe the end of training camp, when other teams are trying to get compliant, the Jets will be able to pick up some good pieces utilizing their abundant cap space.

I like the Tatar signing, not sure how realistic it is since guys don't want to sign in Winnipeg and I doubt management even sees a need for a top 6 winger.

The D still sucks but it is what it is with Dayoff at the helm.. Lol.. Would be fun if Kovacevic made the team!

Gawd I hope Copp isn't signed to that but he probably will be unfortunately.

I said this on another Jets post but if Heinola isn't on the starting lineup it won't be too long till the trade request is made.

Agreed with you on Heinola.

Copp likely gets that or files for arb and leaves as a FA next year.

Chevy won’t do anything crazy on D.

If he files for arbitration wonder if they just trade him, they should but idk if they would.

Weird question, but what do you think ask and price on laine if they can go water under the bridge in laine vs the organization. End of the day the Jets need a gun in top 6

In terms of trading for him or offer sheet? In a trade with what they just got for Jones, they likely ask for Perfetti +
2nd or maybe even Perfetti straight up. Jets definitely say no. A fair trade could be Copp + Samberg + 2022 1st top 5 protected. If they wanted to offer sheet him, probably takes 9 million, but Columbus might match that.

The trade sucked, I'd take Laine and his warts plus Roslo over that dud Frenchman any day, now the Jets lack goal scoring, filled one hole by digging another bigger one, it's the result of catering to Wheeler and his massive ego.

It’s a Maurice thing as well. Just bad asset management. Would be great if somehow they got laine back.

Wheeler anchor contract makes u wonder what’s best on scheifeles next contract, personally I trade him for as much as possible and try to come back stronger with the next nucleus and window over current.

Ultimately it starts at the top with the owner(Chipman not Thomson), there's no accountability and you can hear it in their interviews, Wheeler talks a good talk but he'll never take responsibility for anything, Maurice and Chevy have an arrogance to them, Maurice is practically telling fans who question his methods to **** off in some interviews.

As much as we all hope to see things change realistically nothing is changing until there's a management change, one who'll hold everyone to account and keep the owner in his place, Chevy and Maurice seem safe for quite awhile.

Ryan Murray all day, he'd be a good UFA signing for the Jets if they're actually looking for external help on defense.

Sorry I wanted to reply to you in another thread about Hamilton the other day but was in an area with crappy cell service which was making things difficult.. Lol

I think it's best they move on from Scheifele in the last year of his deal, don't want him to pollute the next group of kids who will make up the next core, idk what they'll do though, probably sign him to an anchor contract to replace Wheeler's anchor contract.. Lol

Have heard Scheifele isn't happy with his contract or happy in Winnipeg(he's clearly changed the last few years, looks grumpy and whining to the refs all the time) so who knows, maybe he'll want to move on anyway.

Respectable bubble team, that’s in the conversation that brings in a few shiny new rookies for jersey sales, and continue on. Trip to conference finals just about broke fanbase financially. My biggest pet peeve of a sports franchise, I was thinking of going ufa fan lol

Did u even watch Laine play in CBJ? I’ll way rather have Dubois

I’ll be honest the Jets dodged a bullet there it’s not a coincidence players like Ehlers stepped their game up to a new level and the team isn’t such a wreck in the room anymore

Even Wheeler with all the flack he’s receiving from his own fan base about how the issue was handled.. don’t expect him to live up to his contract and carry all the baggage that gets thrown in him

If Dubois can figure his game out awesome! Loved his style in CBJ.. if not we flip him for a defencemen with Perfetti coming up

Well it'll wear thin on fans, the western conference finals may have been pricey for some but the Jets arent as big of a draw as they were and they're playing boring hockey, have heard the waiting list for season tickets has shrunk a lot, ownership better not take their fans for granted with this do nothing GM and a coach who loves dull, boring hockey.

Winnipeg basically needs to learn Tb ray baseball rules and have the players from 18/22 to 27/29 and basically keep flipping back younger til you can take your shot and bottom out and do it all again. I’m sure the fanbase would rather have a legit shot every 5 years over there favourite player being there for a career. Help jersey sales anyway, I would be a little pissed if I was scheifele too, always the middle of everything without a whole lot of back up. I guess it’s kind of his own fault if he’s the one the rode laine out of town. He needs a grinder/skater over anything Wheeler can offer him now, and a elite scorer to finish.

Did you even see PLD play in Winnipeg? He was terrible.. Lol

Wheeler is an asshole and it's known around the league, it's obvious the problems in the room still exist with the captain being the problem.

Ehlers and Laine would've been magic together this season I bet, what a shame we didn't get to see it.

Think we're jumping the gun on Perfetti, he's gonna take a bit to develop yet imo.

Absolute ****ing joke we never saw Ehlers-Scheifele-Laine put together, Wheeler would have no part of that though.

Ya definitely time for some heads to roll, they are doing something right drafting, but there’s definitely a problem at moose or east coast or just the plain stupidity of continuing to put veteran roadblocks in front of every kid. Draft and develop team can’t be that stupid with Maurice always siding with vets. Where’s the burrows, bieksas, and other guys that helped canucks to finals in 11

I was surprised that there was no list of injuries on Dubois, he truly looks to me like he lost a step at 22, I keep going back to hopefully getting fire and passion back over a somewhat normal offseason. But damn would that suck if him and Gustafson are in a fight for 2/4 line center with Lowry and scheifele holding down the other two. So many bad lazy habits to break also, can take some of that if the contributions are high enough, but so bad for moral. Hopefully new dude in sept.

Yeah 100% agreed PLD wasn’t good… but still better then Laine was

Don’t know what u expect from Wheeler… he and Laine mostly clashed due to Laines laziness

Ehlers wouldn’t have taken the next step if Laine didn’t leave

If Perfetti isn’t ready resign Stastny
