A Major Rebound of the Offseason Out of Nowhere

Created by: Hockyluv21
Team: 2021-22 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 3, 2021
Published: Aug. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Probably the one team in the entire NHL, outside of Tampa for obvious reasons, that Trouba would waive his NMC for. End result is what Jeff Gorton tried to build, but with FAR better support pieces.

Rangers definitely take it but I feel it would be more fair without Suzuki because of Trouba's cap hit.

It's the NMC more than the cap hit that might limit the return. Have you seen the clinically insane returns that premium RHD have been garnering in the trade market? The Risto trade makes my package look like an extreme underpay.

Well, If he waives the NMC there is no need to limit return haha. I've definitely noticed the saturation in the returns for the RHD market but this is a really solid deal.

If he's only willing to waive for one-two teams, similar to how Taylor Hall would only waive to Boston, then that might limit the package.

I suppose. As long as it's at least a 1st + Bear I'd take it. Obviously with the cap dump Gardiner to keep it fair.

But seriously, though, placing Trouba next to Slavin could unlock his borderline-Norris level play in Winnipeg. I think it's worth a swing from Carolina. Won't be as prolific on the PP as Dougie was, but hey, this is where DeAngelo would come into view.

Did CAR even offer Dougie $8M? Why would they want Trouba at $8M?

I think it's apples to oranges. You can't swap cap space in free agency like you can in trades. Canes are effectively spending $2M in extra cap in my proposed trade to add a top pair RHD. It's also for a 5 year deal on a 27 year old, not a 7-8 year deal on a 28 year old.

It’s not quite apples to oranges. The point is Dougie is better than Trouba. If they’re willing to move Suzuki and the 1st why not up the bid for Dougie and just use those pieces to move Gardiner if they teams feel like he’s a full cap dump.

Also Bear is pretty good. CAR is better off keeping him and the assets anyways and just buying out Gardiner. Trouba isn’t a big enough upgrade to move Suzuki and the 1st.

Trouba is getting the "C" and literally not going anywhere. He forced his way to NY for his wife's internship and residency program, she is already matched and in place. He isnt waiving and they arent going to even consider asking. He and Kreider are unmovable for at least 3 years. Just a fact of life.

They should bite the bullet and buy them both out to prove a point. Both of those contracts are awful mistakes. Neither of them is worth it.

Definitely Trouba is the most overpaid defensemen in the Eastern Conference I might’ve missed someone but I can’t think of one

This is easily one of the silliest takes i have ever seen on this site. $12m in dead space this year, $10m dead next year, $6.5m the 3 after that. To prove a point? Are they ideal, no? Is the Trouba contract that bad? Probably not, he was excellent last year and should be very good the next 3. Kreider is worrisome but thats also Kreider. Settle down. Buy them both out. Worse than Sather over here.

If they were smart they should’ve sign a vet to a short term deal to help the prospects and not screw up the rebuild. I love Panarin but it’s useless wasting his prime when we aren’t good enough to do anything in the playoffs. Kreider should’ve been moved at the deadline when we were sellers. They’ve woefully screwed this team up. Guess that means they’re trading most of the young guys to keep overpaid older players since we’ve still got a flat cap to deal with.

lol. settle down. the young talent aint going anywhere unless its for a superstar, and if they were gonna trade Kakko for Eichel, it would have happened already.

So then how do you propose signing everyone without moving cap out and not underpaying people under a flat cap. It’s not gonna be easy. Plus it makes it impossible to get an upgrade at 2C.
