Rangers have so much cap this year, and if they move from Eichel chase, I would do Mikko and a 1st for Georgiev if i was them, just take the 1 to downgrade the back up and eat the whole cap hit and see if Allaire can coach him up.

This would definitely be an Oilers-esque move. Overpay for a league average goaltender based on name value, and spend the next few years wondering "Why's our goaltending so bad?!?!".

I'm not sure you'd be taking a downgrade though. Over the past 2 years Koskinen has posted a .910 sv% in 64 games while Georgiev has posted a .908 in 53 games.

At the beginning of this past season Smith was injured and Holland screwed up the backup situation repeatedly, and it meant the that Koskinen had to play every game of a wicked schedule (12 games in 24 nights traveling thousands of miles through 4 timezones) which isn't something ANY goalie can stand up under. It wasn't fair to Koskinen but Tippett had little choice but to keep throwing him over the boards, so his results were poor over that stretch. I don't fault Koskinen for that, he did his best in an impossible situation.

With that in mind, I took a look at his last 2 seasons combined, but I pulled those 12 games out of the equation to get a look at how he performs under normal circumstances: his save percentage was .916, which is far better than Georgiev's .908.

Even if you include those January games Koskinen still posted a .910 over the past 2 years. Why should the Oilers pay a 1st round pick to downgrade their goaltending?

Past 3 yrs: Georgiev .911 - 86 GP, 3.6 GSAA. Koskinen .908 - 119 GP, -3.0 GSAA.

Koskinen had good numbers in 19-20, but came back with a sub 900 save percentage. It's a downgrade.

Only because he was played without rest or practice time at the beginning of 20-21. See post #6.
