This deal is only good if Rielly is asking for ridiculous money. Which unfortunately seems to be the thing this year. Honestly I don't know how any gm expects to stay competitive paying these d men so much...

If Rielly is asking for North of 8 then I take this deal.

As a Leaf, LHD seems to be OK, and if Reilly walks, don't know if I would want 5m Chariot gumming up the cap (even if 5m is fair value)
Rather just go with Reilly this season and see what happens come next summer.
Almost all sign and trades are so impractical, they almost aren't worth mentioning in any realistic trade.

Don't think the Habs say yes to this deal strictly because of money. Reilly is worth 8 million but the trouble on MTLs end is Suzuki and Caufield. If they come out this year and are 50+ point players, Caufield wins the Calder and then look to sign new deals they're gonna be expensive. It's a win for MTL in terms of value but flat cap and having to pay younger players takes being able to say yes off the table
