Spezza isn’t a C at this point.

He also can’t play 3rd line for an entire year.

In my mind we don't really have a 3rd line. We have our top two lines and 2 bottom 6 lines. Top two lines will play around 18 minutes each per night with the bottom 2 lines playing 10-14 minutes. If we need to lockdown more, the line led by Kämpf would get more ice time. If we need more offense, the Spezza line would play more. I still think Spezza can play that role. We also have Brooks, Amadio and Semyonov that could fill in that spot if Spezza needs a rest. Ideally we maybe get someone during the season that is a better option than those I mentioned.

Kerfoot is fine but I think he’s overpriced for what he is. Would prefer for the Canes to go after a more impactful scoring threat, particularly a top 6 winger.

I can see where you are coming from here. But your top 6 wingers would be Svechnikov, Teravainen, Necas and Niederreiter. I don't think that is what you guys need? Correct me if I am wrong. Kerfoot would be a nice option on that 3rd line IMO.

The idea is to push Nino down to the third line next year and get an improvement in the top 6. If they still have the space for Kerfoot or somebody similar to add on the third line with Nino and Staal then I’d be all for it.

That would make sense. Would someone like Fast be moved out if you upgraded your top 6? Who are some player that Carolina are rumored to be looking at?

How do you suggest we get to a full 23 man roster? Someone has to go here. Moving one of Mikheyev or Engvall won't work to make us cap compliant with a 23 man squad. We would have to move both. IMO keeping both of them and moving Kerfoot to free up some cap space to make maneuvers would be the best route for us to take.

If needed for cap reasons I could see him being odd one out but if not having him on 4th line and available in case of injuries to slot up, I’d rather keep him if they can afford to.

Tatar and Saad were targets before they signed elsewhere. Tara has been rumored but not sure how serious that would be. Not sure how realistic the rest are but good targets that are feasible to be traded imo are also Dvorak, Kilorn, Zucker, Debrusk, Rakell. Probably forgetting a few others and a lot of those guys have question marks too. Hoping Svech extends soon so they know what they have to work with and can make another addition or two

U can trade both and be fine lol. I’ll never understand why people wanna trade kerfoot. He was shoehorned into a 3C role and he can’t to that. He’s a top 6 forward, and has excellent chemistry with nylander, as showed in the playoffs. I mean this in the best way possible, but Tavares being out and him being able to get into that 2C spot and play with nylander and galchenyuk in an offensive role, was the best thing that’s happened to him here. He showed what he’s capable of and where he is best playing at. If they’re gonna trade him tho, they should get a much better return than that.

Believe me, Kerfoot is one of my favorite players. I have often had to argue with my mates saying he is overrated, overpaid etc. He is such a smart hockey player and can play in that top 6 without problem. Question here is, how ready is Robertson, if he is ready we should play him. 3 years on and ELC is something we have to use with our cap situation. The Kerfoot money could go elsewhere to strengthen us. I agree that Mikheyev and Engvall are replaceable, I would look at someone like Jankowski to play that role. Did excellent for Pittsburgh playing shutdown minutes.

As for the return. I don't think we will get much more. Teams will know that we are trading him for cap purposes which will lower his price.

Also they got Kampf for the 3rd as their shutdown center. Spezza is great on the 4th line because his class is better then anyone on the ice.

Mate its not a 3C or 4C situation. Both guys are bottom 6 with different roles. Kämpf is to be a shutdown specialist with good face-off capability while Spezza can produce offense at 5v5. Some nights Kämpf will play more minutes, other nights Spezza will depending on how the game looks like. They should play anywhere from 10-14 minutes a game. People should really stop with this 3C and 4C stuff. If you have played hockey on a high level, you know that every line has a different objective to help the team win.

Kerfoot isn't going anywhere, you think people would've understood that with the expansion draft moves.

LoL I seen a thread where a 2nd and 3rd was offered for Kerfoot and leaf fans **** all over it. I thought it was a decent return, possibly an overpayment. This thread is pretty tame

I can see Kerfoot staying as well but the expansion draft moves was all business. a 7th plus a prospect that is a long shot of becoming an NHL player was deemed better to lose than Kerfoot. If they trade Kerfoot they were probably banking on the return being better than what they had to give Pittsburgh for that trade.

If the Leafs could get a 2nd and 3rd I think they would be all over it. I don't think they would get that return as they have to trade someone out in order for not having run a 21 man roster. Teams will know this, thus why the return likely is lower.
