Flames dont consider that, Hanifin is younger than Rielly and was better than him last year. Not to mention contract difference favors Hanifin by a mile

Better in what sense? Rielly had more points and actually played in the playoffs..

He had more points but Hanifin's underlying metrics and play driving is better and he's a better defensive player. He's also younger, has a better contract and Rielly will be an FA next offseason where the Flames aren't likely to sign him to an overpayment of a deal. On top of all of this, they're adding a 2nd rounder.

Flames pass.

Rielly had more points early in the season, Hanifin is way better defensively and out produced Rielly after Sutter came in and gave him the special teams time he deserved

Hey if Calgary wants to do this sure. If on the same contract even with age difference I take Rielly over hanifin. That being said the contract makes all the difference. Rielly is a pending UFA and likely to get 8ish for term next year based on this summer.

Hanifin makes essentially the same as Rielly right now but has 3 years left
