Devils pass, Reilly just isn’t a good fit for a rebuilding team like New Jersey

Since you don't have the devils first as they wouldn't take that trade, you definitely aren't getting that deal from Arizona. You probably get Dvorak for Robertson, a 1st and Kerfoot. Kerfoot strictly being a cap dump to make the money work, they might charge you a bit more for taking him just cause Toronto would need the space.

Make the picks a 3rd and a conditional 5th.
Otherwise, Devils aren’t paying for a rental yet.
Maybe next year.

I get Rielly not being a good fit, but that doesnt seem like a good reason. Not saying I agree with the trades, but they went and signed Hamilton and Tatar, traded for Graves, and signed Bernier to start being competitive. Bernier is not a goalie you sign to be better later down the stretch

Doubt devils have an interest in Reilly but if they did, drop Engvall and the second and that makes more sense for a rental.

Drop Dvorak and one of the seconds in the other trade and the value is probably ok but still highly doubt ARI accepts unless you grossly overpay.

You're joking right? I wouldn't give Robertson for Dvorak 1 for 1 and it's not close.

Is the first lottery protected because if not yeah the devils just hang up before you finish the trade

This isn't my ACGM but I assume it would be. No way one year of Rielly potentially gets you a top 10 pick in an insane draft

He is not a good fit because the Devils have Smith, Hamilton, Bahl, Hughes, Mukhamadullin, Edwards, Walsh, Siegenthaler, Okhotyuk, Vilen, and Vukojevic all under control for at least 4+ years...plus Severson and Graves for next two years. Their competitive window starts soon, but not likely in time for Rielly to help.

However, that 1st pick will certainly help in our window.

Makes more sense for both teams if Leafs re-sign Rielly, and trade us Sandin.

A 1st round pick that could be a lottery pick in a loaded draft year is way too much for 1-year of Rielly.

Assumed it had lottery protection but agree with you if that’s not the case.

There are many teams where trading a 1st for Rielly makes sense.
NJD is not one of them.

1. Every rebuilding team
2. Every team at cap
3. Every team with stud LD1's that are better than Rielly.

Its not a hard process.
Yet, teams like Devils and Red Wings get so many of these offers.

I know - I was poking fun at myself by using a old movie quote.
