Benn's contract isn't good but in a one year situation he can still produce at a pretty high clip. Vlasic's is bad though.
This team should make playoffs and could make some noise with how deep they are.
Benn has been trending down for a few years and he is only getting slower. Even a 50 point season is not worth 9.5mil. Dunno what you mean about producing at a high clip as he hasn't done that in 4 years.

I get what you're saying but my point is he's still contributing at a middle six (probably 2nd line) level right now. While his contract is bad for the long-term, in an exercise like this it's not something you can't overcome b/c he's still a solid contributor. Unlike Vlasic who can't really give you much. I just think instead of Benn a guy like Duchene would be a better "bad contract".
Benn's #'s over last 4 years:
.96 PPG
.67 PPG
.56 PPG

If you only look at points then Benn's contract is horrible, but there's a lot more to it. Benn is one of the best leaders in the league, a great two way player, a big physical presence, great on draws, and he can play all of the forward positions. Plus he's a fantastic playoff performer, all of that make up for the large contract. Now I'm not saying he isn't overpaid because he is, but to say that it's a bad contract isn't true. A bad contract is someone like Duchene.
