Any suggestions for worse ones? I generally tried to avoid guys who were re-signed by a team, and focused more on them signing on July 1st or similar circumstances.

God I am so happy we traded Skinner while we still could, this team wouldn’t be what they are now if they had given him that contract.

There is one very glaring one missing here. Especially at goaltending. Maybe you can figure it out.

My favourite however is Jeff Finger. If you're a Leafs fan like me you can finally laugh about it. But at the time it was beyond embarrassing.

Really not sure what goalie you're referring to.

I'll give you another hint. He is on an eastern conference teams payroll until 2029.

Also the Suter, Parise, Weber contracts may need to be added here too. An argument could be made about Kovalchuk.

DiPietro wasn't a UFA, he re-signed with the Islanders. Suter and Parise are good I should have added them.

Karlsson? Burns? Not sure if both meet your criteria but those are awful.

Can add Nurse and Jones in a few years lol

You're right he wasn't UFA that year. My bad. Well, it is still the worst contract of all time regardless.

Hey now. Clowe would have continued to be excellent had his style of play not concussed the crap out of him. Prime Clowe, on the Sharks was awesome.

I disagree. It was a bad contract no doubt considering it was 15 years but it alsolocked up our franchise hoodie at ~4.5 million. There is a silver lining and if he didn't get injured it wouldn't be close to this conversation.

Hmmm... I mean you could make that argument about quite a few contracts then. Lucic for example. At the time of his contract signing I thought it was lights out. Lucic embodied everything franchises should look in a player. Size, skill, physical, and leadership. Suddenly speed became the most important factor in the game and he apparently lost his step in just about everything else.

Yes but when you give a contract you have to account for decline, accounting for injury is a lot harder and is much more unpredictable.

I agree injuries are definitely hard to factor in. But at the same time he hadn't put up amazing numbers to warrant the length of contract. I think it was more of the Islanders weren't the most desirable place to play that forced their hand into a ridiculous contract.

Oh I'm not disagreeing it was a terrible contract, but it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. Add for play he was the goalie of the future for us and was still a very good player.
