Well if that’s the case then why doesn’t Buffalo get him? He’s good and would play on their top PP unit. You can draw up that scenario for many teams, but it doesn’t mean that it would make sense.

The Devils are not in a win now phase and have plenty of defensemen when they’ll be in a win now phase. This doesn’t make sense.

That has to be one of the weakest arguments ever lol.
He wouldn't even play top power play most likely, they would have Hamilton there and if they go two defensemen probably go with Smith.

I’m pretty sure the Devils are going to make the playoffs in the next 7 seasons, and also Rielly is only 9 months younger than Hamilton. Dougie was free, Rielly will cost to acquire.

Sign UFA > trade a 23 year old forward with 130 pts in 230 games. Thats the problem. if they take a shot in free agency and get him for money, then it works out, but they shouldnt be trading young forwards and picks for someone that in reality walks at the end of the year
