I still think Dvo ends up a Ranger and Kessel and Devil

Created by: Jrader17

Trades
1.

ARI
  1. Boqvist, Jesper
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
The Devils clearly want to make the playoffs this year.. Their top 6 as of now is
Janne Kuokkanen-Jack Hughes-Yegor Sharangovich
Tatar-Nico Hischier-Jesper Bratt.

Which is bottom third in the league.. barring one of Hughes or Hischier making a huge jump.

As of right now, the only right-handed forward on the Devils’ NHL roster is McLeod. Holtz and Mercer are right handed but they're both probably a year away and with the Devils big push a veteran like Kessel makes more sense. Kessel gives them a desperately needed right shot, and he can play anywhere in the top 9 with any of Hughes, Hiscier or Zacha.

They can afford his full caphit but I've retained to give NJD more flexibility later in season.

Boqvist gets a fresh start and a chance at more ice time , Yotes take a flier and get another draft pick.
NJD
  1. Kessel, Phil ($2,800,000 retained)
3.
ARI
  1. Pettersson, Marcus
Additional Details:
I think Pettersson is good. Is he overpaid for what he is, yes sure, but he's a reliable low event defenseman who holds up well on both ends of the ice and might have some more offense to him. For whatever Pens management is out on him. He's 25 which makes him a little older than the Yotes rebuild age curve but being 27/28 when the team is ready to be good isn't too old.

Already owning 5 2nd rounders, you can afford to lose a 3rd (which the Pens don't have) and some later draft capital.

It’s not that they are down on him, they just need cap space to get depth back and having Dumo, Pettersson, Matheson, Riikola, and POJ that are capable of playing in the nhl, they need to open up a space. The pens would probably rather have Lyubushkin, Crouse, Fischer package in a Pettersson deal so they can fill out their roster and fill a few needs with one trade.

I have no qualms about the trade value on the Kessel deal, I just don't see Devils acquiring him.
I would think Christian Fisher could be someone we would target as replacement for Bastian on the Wood/McLeod line.

Also - Pettersson would be good pick up

I understand Dvorak is on a great contract but he hasn’t put up more than 38 points and wasn’t great defensively.
I think the issue is whether people think he’s a 2C or a 3C. If he can be a 2C then I’d be solid with having a tandem or eichel, Dvorak and chytil potentially. But still not 100% sold on that and at that price who knows if I’d do it.

Strome is better than Dvorak so unless we trade Strome and Zibanejad for Eichel I don't see why we would give up so much for a meh player

I'm interested in Dvorak for 2 reasons - potential (still there. Guy was great in junior hockey with a mix of skill and grit - which is exactly what the Rangers have now). B.) I don't see the Rangers being able to keep Zibanejad and Strome long-term. He can potentially be a mid 6 C replacement for one, with him or Chytil taking over 2C.

Younger, cheaper and has more term. Higher ceiling potential wise too. His numbers are also deflated from playing in Arizona, the same way Strome's are inflated by playing with Panarin.

Dvorak's most frequent linemates this season: Tyler Pitlick and Lawson Crouse

Perfectly put.
I never really saw the Rangers as suitors for Dvorak, but it actually it would make sense cause he can solidify your center "problem" and can play wing if needed and then the yotes get some decent prospects and the first. I think it's a win win.
