An interesting proposal

Created by: Beau18
Team: 2021-22 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 27, 2021
Published: Aug. 27, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Lou Lamoriello would start a rebuild due to our aging core, this would be an ideal situation.

BOS - Nelson for moore coyle lysell and a 1st
A 1st to move coyles monster contract and moore who is a cap dump. Lysell is given up for nelson.
For the bruins - as theyre trying to win now, getting a great 2 way 2C on a reasonable deal is a win.
For the islanders - going into a rebuild, nelson is going to get back a decent return. Try to maximize on that by picking up the necessary cap dump as well.

EDM - varlamov for tullio turris koskinen and a 1st
Tullio to take on the cap dumps of turris and koskinen. A 1st is moved for varlamov.
For the oilers - they get a top goalie for 2 years at a reasonable cap hit. Between varly and smith they should have solid goaltending the next 2 years.
For the islanders - varlys been a great signing but he doesnt help us in a rebuild. Again we maximize his value by taking the cap dumps.

MTL - pageau for poehling byron a 1st and a 2nd
A 2nd to take byrons cap hit. Poehling and a 1st to acquire pageau.
For the canadiens - they get a middle 6 C who can play do everything. He replaces danault at a lower aav while allowing the coaching staff to move kotkaniemi along however fast or otherwise they want.
For the islanders - getting a 1st plus a solid bottom 6 C prospect back is getting decent value for jg. And then its supplemented by taking MTLs cap back.
*If there is no need for MTL to move cap back, take out byron and the 2nd.*

TOR - pulock retained for amirov dermott and 2 1sts
Dermott for the retention. Amirov and the 2 1sts for pulock. Comes with a 7×7 extension.
For the maple leafs - they get a legit number 1 dman at an amazing cap hit. Its based off the jones trade. Boqvist>amirov, CHI 1sts>TOR 1sts and pulock>jones so therefore theres no pick swap (44 for 32) or a 6th round pick going to toronto.
For the islanders - it hurts to lose pulock but by the time we come out of the rebuild hes gonna be on the back end of his career. His biggest weakness right now - foot speed - is going to be the 1st thing to decline with age. Get something big in return while hes still extremely valuable.

NYR - barzal and a 2nd for lafreniere schneider strome and a 1st
Strome for a 2nd to clear cap for NYR. Barzal returns laf schneider and a 1st.
For the rangers - they get a top 5 1-2 punch at center. While they werent willing to give laf for eichel its a completely different situation imo. Barzal isnt gonna be out for at least half the season. He also doesnt have any long term injury concerns. Hes making 3 million less than eichel while the rangers go through a cap crunch and he wont get more than eichel long term. Hes not just in the division, but coming from a rival.
For the islanders - as much as i would hate to move barzal to the rangers, theyre the best team with the need and the assets to trade him to.

MIN - lee and strome for rask zuccarello wallstedt and a 1st
This one i was a bit confused about. Whats zuccarellos value? Is he a cap dump? But he still puts up points. But does he have value? Bc he is on the back end of his career, 21-22 will be his age 34 season. He still has 3 years left at a pretty big number. He also has an nmc. Therefore i left his value at net 0. I only moved him to make room for lee. Lee for wallstedt and zuccarello. Strome for rask and a 1st.
For the wild - they get a rental to play 1C before the buyouts cap hit skyrockets. They also get a legit top line winger to play with kaprizov. Hes better and younger than zuccarello and would be a great addition to an already good team.
For the islanders - lee agrees to waive to his hometown team. We get a nice prospect for him as well as a solid return for strome. We take rask back to add value.

SEA - bailey for a 2nd
For the kraken - it looks like theyre trying to compete and they have a big shortage of top 6 forwards. They get a sllid tl2 way winger who plays every aspect of the game right. He also elevates his game in the playoffs. He should be a nice addition both on and off the ice.
For the islanders - it would be tough to see bails play his 1000th game in another uniform but sometimes you gotta make the tough decision.

COL - beauvillier for olausson a 1st and compher
Compher could be taken out if they want, imo in this deal he has no value.
For the avalanche - their biggest strength is now becoming a weakness. Their depth is shot to hell and they dont have 4 top 6 wingers anymore. They pick up a young really solid winger. He fits colorado perfectly and they dont lose any major part of the team.
For the islanders - we get a prospect that i really like plus a future 1st.

WSH - martin for hagelin a 2nd a 4th and a 7th
Martin for a 4th and 7th. Hagelin for a 2nd.
For the capitals - with everyone in the metro (specifically nyr) gearing up for a big tom wilson war, washington brings in reinforcements. They re-sign chara and get martin who is a solid 4th liner. They move out hagelins cap to help them fit everyone in.
For the islanders - pick up a cap dump. Plus we sell of a 30+yo 4th liner thats not gonna help us anymore for a couple of picks.

STL - mayfield for scandella and a 1st
For the blues - they get a solid top 4 dman on a great contract while shedding some bad cap for 3 years.
For the islanders - between the value of mayfields contract plus the cap dump of scandella, we're able to get back a 1st round pick.

SJS - panik for a 3rd
For the sharks - theyve said theyre trying to contend so they get a very solid bottom 6 winger. Before last season he had 4 straight 30 point seasons (19-20 he was on pace for 30 the other 3 he actually hit it) plus hes above average defensively. Getting a guy like that at 2×1.375 is a very solid deal.
For the islanders - get a 3rd round pick for a bottom 6er who doesnt help them.

CAR - clutterbuck retained for a 3rd
For the hurricanes - they get a very solid bottom 6er to add to a very good team. Hes not gonna put up a ton of points but hes a great pker hes very good defensively and he hits everything in an opponents jersey.
For the islanders - we have to retain on cal but a bottom 6 rental returns a decent pick.

DAL - a 2nd and a 3rd for stankoven
For the stars - they flip a 2nd rounder in a weak draft for a 2nd and a 3rd in much stronger drafts.
For the islanders - we get a guy i really like thats all.

The gap between Strome and Barzal is a lot less than Lafreniere, Schneider and a 1st. Lol.

So let me get this straight, Montreal gives up a good 2 way 3C who is 6 years younger and 4.25 Mil cheaper + a 2023 1st round pick in the deepest draft since 2015 in which the 32nd pick over all could turn out to be better than Pageau? Yeah Montreal is most likely not moving their next 2 first round picks unless it is for something truly elite.

Panik has been cap dumped twice in less than a year and now you're getting a 3rd for him? Yeah I don't think so.

We don’t need Pageau, nor can we afford him beyond this year. Although there’s no way Lou trades JGP either.

You mean the 2022 draft? Because thats the one you mean. As for poehling 3C???? If he was a good 3C he wouldnt have gotten a 2 way deal for this year. A pretty pathetic take tbh.

Panik was cap dumped once. Hes not worth 2.75. The wings didnt dump him, the islanders got value.

Whenever you have the chance to move your star center and #1 defenseman, you gotta do it.

Your analysis on Pulock is wrong , thinking fast > skating fast - and because he has high end IQ + two way ability he will likely age well barring injuries.

I do appreciate you calling the Rangers the best team. Maybe just in Metro, but I hope in whole NHL. Still doesn't make trade fair.

Obviously this isnt realistic. I was just posing a scenario bc MTL has a hole at middle 6 C.

Here’s the aspect people need to start realizing if wanting oilers first rounder for Varmalov that’s fine but in order to get that as the return need to accept cap has to go back or the deal can’t happen at all.

No the WIngs dumped him to you to lessen the value of the 2nd round pick. He didn't suddenly gain value by going through the Wings system.

Imo pageau hasnt done anything on nyi to lower his value. As a rental he got a 1st and a 2nd so im getting the same value.

He gained value by going from 2.75 to 1.375. I know youre pissed yzerman got fleeced but thats what happened.

We more have a hole at 2C, but Bergevin has clearly built his team in the hopes that Kotkaniemi can step into that role.

But you had Poelhing who’ll become at the very least equal as Pageau… Byron is à cap dump but he’s still very very serviceable… throw in Mayfield and our team has no hole

Hehe no. Varlamovs been a top 5 goalie 2 years running. Hes not a rental but its not a long term commitment. He easily gets a 1st by himself. Since edmonton cant afford him atm i took the cap dump in one big deal. If you think its gonna be koskinen and a 1st for varly youre very mistaken.

Poehling wont be "at the very least equal to jgp". Could he? Certainly. But to say its a given is just naive. Pageau is the best 3C in the league. Hes well above average in every aspect of the game. Saying poehling will for sure get there isnt very fair. Its closer to his ceiling than his floor.

I'm not pissed and that's a sad tactic that won't get you far here. Yzerman didn't get fleeced and it says a lot about your hockey knowledge that you think so. Panik was and is a cap dump no one will give you anything for him. The Wings got a 2nd for taking him at 2.75 if lou had taken him at full value the trade would have been a wash. That's why the salary was reduced.

No I MEAN the 2023 draft, try to follow along. 2023 has Bedard, Lind, Danielson, Musty, Squires and Ziemmer to name a few. You should brush up on your NHL knowledge a bit, the 2023 draft has more top end talent than the 2022 draft does. Poehling was given a 2 way contract because he is waiver exempt not because he is not good enough to play 3C.

2.75×3 is a cap dump. 1.375×2 isnt. Its as simple as that. What makes a guy that had 4 straight 30 point seasons before 1 bad one a cap dump at 1.375????? Kind of sucks that lou bent stevie over but wake up to reality.

If he was a good 3C he wouldnt have taken a 2 way deal. As for the drafts, wright savoie lambert just to name a few. And you should probably brush up on your hockey knowledge considering youre talking about the 23 draft and didnt mention michkov. I mean talk about making yourself look pathetic.
