No problem here.

You may even be able to resign KK to a lower AAV long term contract. Insiders said Carolina have such a deal around 4M/ year.

The issue is... Montreal don't really have a choice but to match. if they don't, their 2C is genuinely going to be Jake Evans. I like the guy, but that's not good enough. They won't get a fair price to trade for anyone. They're maybe the one team that would have less leverage in a Eichel trade than Buffalo. They NEED another center.

Bozak isn’t available, and Evans is a perfectly capable 3C.

Just waive 2 of Byron/Paquette/Wideman/Kulak and you’re cap compliant. No need for a trade.

I’m betting this is what Carolina is hoping for then target Suzuki or Romanov next year. This offersheet was just to raise the qualifying offer complicating next offseason.

neither romanov or suzuki should be unsigned by the time the offer sheet window opens up so not too worried about that.
