Winging It

Initial Creation Date: Sep. 11, 2021
Published: Sep. 11, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
While there's a couple of ok prospects, LD seems to be a source of weakness for DET. After this season they will be depleted.

I get DET fans will balk at moving Fabbri, but at the risk of losing him for nothing they get a decent prospect in Legare who should be ready to make the jump no later than the 22/23 season.

To be fully cap compliant when Geno returns the Pens can send Friedman or Rodrigues down. It's unlikely anyone takes them off waivers.

LD is unlikely to be a problem for Detroit next season.

Simon Edvinsson is playing top pair in SHL this season and Albert Johansson has already played on the National Team.

With Oesterle signed over next year and with Lindström being able to play both sides and with the prospects in GR there is no reason to pay any assets for a LD now.

If needed next offseason Yzerman will sign another veteran to help out for a year or take on a cap dump.

Fabbri will be resigned and only traded if that becomes impossible.

Im not gonna trash this deal because I like the idea of getting Petterson for Det, but the trade is just lop sided for Pit, MP is a contract Pit is looking to shed, its not an awful deal, but even if you did Dekeyser retained and a small sweetener like the 3rd, i think thats about fair. But fabbri is for sure worth more than Lagare.

If Detroit trades Fabbri for a less established player it will be for a center and not another winger. I also think if Petterson was coming to Detroit it would have happened a few UFA signings ago.

I understand the concern about Detroit’s LD (at least for the next two seasons), but I don’t see Pettersson as an upgrade over DeKeyser. Not that the Wings are in the market for upgrading their defense anyway, as we already picked up Leddy as our big acquisition at that position. Legare is intriguing, but I wouldn’t move Fabbri for him, he’s been a legitimate top 6 contributor that’s valuable to the Wings.
