The retention kills that trade for Buffalo.
The combined Salaries of Asplund, Caggiula and Pysyk is less than that and combined they will play more than 164 games this year.
How could Buffalo or any club meet the salary cap taking that much out of it.
As to the trade, it is not really that far off.
Dean was drafted last year and Dobber prospects has him ranked just a little lower than Krebs.
Obviously the two first will be late, but any first round pick coming back to Buffalo will be late.
Outside of last year playing for the Senators Dadonov produces on the same level as Reinhart.
Stephenson had the best PDO among all Knights, only Stone, Pacioretty and Marchessault had a higher pts/min than he and he can KP, an area that Buffalo needs to improve.
The problem with the trade is the retention and Dadonov and Stephenson would make the Sabres
too good next year.
Other than last year Dadonov had more assists than goals, put him on RW with Skinner and Cozens and IMO we would have a decent top line.
Olofsson - Stephenson - Hinostroza would be better than any second line the Sabres have had in the past 3 years.
Asplund - Mittelstadt - Thompson was the Sabres best line the last 20 games last year and would be the Sabres best third line in a decade
Bjork - Girgensons - Okposo is an upgrade over last years fourth line as Girgensons missed the entire season while Bjork could play and produce well on nearly any line for Buffalo.
GK and RHD are weak, so maybe the teams scores more, but it would give up a lot more.
IDK what Dadonov or Stephenson could return if traded but if Dadonov salary is any indication of his value, he would return a first as well and Stephenson at least a 2nd.
I would love to hear why three firsts, a decent center prospect and 2 seconds is not enough for Eichel.

That trade is pretty bad for Buffalo

I’m laughing hysterically like the Spider-Man meme. Buffalo says no and hopes you get your eyes checked

Really would be an easy pass for Buffalo even without retention.
