i like the idea of tkachuk for eichel a lot, tbh. buffalo gets a quality young forward w leadership ability and ottawa gets a 1C. don’t know if it ever actually gets to that point w him and ottawa but i feel like the sabres would be interested

That's not nearly enough for eichel.

That Eichel deal would need to look different but they would be interested in Tkachuk

You'd have to add a lot more on top of Tkachuk to get Eichel.

I don't think Eichel is the answer to our problems with Tkachuk, TBH.

The premise of the trade is "Tkachuk gets greedy". Hardly a young forward with leadership ability.

whether the sens want to pay the ridiculous amount of money he’s apparently asking for or give him the signing bonuses he wants doesn’t really affect his presence in the room or the way his teammates view him imo.

I haven't heard of any offers where a team is willing to offer a player as good as Tkachuk for Eichel.

Eichel is injured and will probably be out for next season while he recovers from surgery.

I should probably mention while I think B Tkachuk is a great player I also think many overrate him.

He's two years younger eichel. Not all that much. And they aren't in the same league of skill.

Brady is often a unique package of toughness and skill and can intimidate and bring a wanted package to a scoring line. But he's also a winger. Eichel on the flipside is a franchise centre which is also very hard to find.

And when you compare their production through the same age their incomparable.

Tkachuk had 60 g and 125 points in 198 GP.

Over 82 gp that 25 goals and 51 point pace

Eichel had 73 goals and 177 points in 209 games

Which is 29 goals and 69 points.

When you look at the 2 most recent years (is 20 and 21)

Eichel had 49 goals and 121 points in 128 games
Which is 31 g and 78 pts per 82

B Tkachuk had 38 g and 80 pts in 127 GP
Which is 25 g and 52 points.

Their incomparable offensively

What makes Tkachuk good isn't his production; it's his intangibles. There's also the fact that Eichel is injured and will probably need a season off to get surgery.

There's no doubt Eichel has the higher upside but he's injured and is wanting to be traded out of Buffalo.

What do you think Ottawa adds to make this a fair trade?

Oh I get his intangibles. I did try to address them.

What do they add? Most people would say he's equivalent to maybe 2.5 firsts in that "4 firsts" model understanding that it wouldnt 4 massive pieces.

So I dunno a good but not blue chip prospect and a good but not special young player?

For me personally? It would be an impossible deal to make. Look where Columbus is after they traded their 1c for a high end winger. Even if Laine continued his awesome production they'd be screwed. Look at the leafs led by Kessel.

You can't build a winning team without a high-end c and ideally a franchise c. The chances that Mittlestadt is a good c are solid, but I think the likelihood of him being a 1c are fairly low at this point, and Cozens also looks more likely to be a contenders 2c than franchise c.

With Mittlestadt and Cozens and some good forward prospects for the wings and Power and Dahlin and similar on d. The main piece coming back needs to be a prospect or young player with a good chance at 1c upside. If the main value of the trade is a great winger they can't get it.

The CBJ were already at the bottom even before they did the Dubois for Laone trade. In fact Roslovic played better than Dubois last season.

Tell me which team is offering a prospect with a 1C upside for Eichel?

Habs aren't moving Suzuki
Anaheim isn't moving Zegras
Kings aren't moving Byfield

Thomson is worth a 1st and plays a position Buffalo needs help with. I feel like Tkachuk is worth 3 1sts.
