Just a comment on a couple here:
-Tavares is certainly an easy one to pick on, but he's been a point per game player since he arrived. As a non-Leaf fan, I think he's worth every cent. That Montreal series changed the moment he went down. Might have only been game 1, but the team played differently after that. I don't think you see that massive fall-off offensively if he plays in that series. Again, I get that they then went up 3-1, but there were a lot more peaks and valleys than there typically was when he was around.
-As a Ducks fan, you're spot on with Silf. At no point have I been particularly enamored with him, but for some reason GMBM seemed to have loved him when he offered that extension that included a m-ntc. He's a consistent 40-45 pt guy, but man that's a lot to pay.

I love Tavares. He’s been everything I’ve wanted. I completely agree. However, I just don’t think anyone on the leafs has a worse contract than him. Marner is the next option, but he was top 5 in scoring last year. 90+ pt pace over the last 3 seasons I believe, good defensively, great pk guy, and only 23 and getting better. Yes the playoffs, but I think that is all mental and can be fixed. He makes less than JT and is younger. That’s why I’d have JT as the worst one.

But CapFriendly's worst blind homer thinks that Koskinen > John Gibson.

The only thing that makes Tavares' contract less than desirable, is the NMC. He's a p/g 2C. If he weren't stuck behind Matthews, and had Marner and Nylander for regular wingers, he'd likely be even better.

Of course you have to keep Matthews, but it's a waste to spend $11M on a 2C when a lesser/cheaper player could do a sufficient job and leave money to shore up the roster elsewhere.

In terms of value from the contract, you're probably right. I'm thinking more of a lower-AAV contract that has handcuffed the offseason, such as Mrazek or Ritchie. Obviously it's hard to say what they'll do, but I really, really don't think the Leafs are going to get more from Ritchie than he's displayed over the first 6 seasons of his career, and Mrazek is a pretty solid question mark. I guess when you're below $4 mil on a contract, it's hard to really put you up there with the worst though.

If Thomas Hickey is the worst contract on the Islanders, than Lamoriello is an absolute genius

Uncle Leo is the worst contract on the team, Hickey's is a very, VERY close second IMO

Teams like Ottawa and Arizona need those bad contracts to get to the cap floor. Really bad are Fla. Bobrovsky 10 for 5 more yrs or Karlsson in SJ at 11.5 for 6 more yrs
