Agreed. This deal doesn't happen for a few reasons.

1. If Montréal is out of the playoff picture, I suspect they will run a C core of Suzuki, Dvorak, Poehling, Evans to the end. Note here, their need of a 3C 100% hinges on Peohling's season. If they do, they look at a UFA not an expiring deal.

2. The only thing more valuable in a playoff rub than D depth is C depth. Taking from Peter to save Paul makes no sense for the Leafs.

3. Edmundson's contract. Sure it's a wash with Kerfoot, but that's a lot of $$ for someone who would be a bottom 6 guy...... unless of course Muzzin is injured again. But me thinks other option exist there.

Edmundson is literally a plus/minus god, which shows how important he is as a stay at home defenseman

Ah yes, plus minus, the 2nd least useful stat in the history of stats.
The dude is a literal defensive black hole and gets murdered in shots and chances against. He's as good at defending as a stiff breeze

LMAO we beat the Leafs with him in the top 4 so what does that say about the Leafs forward group?

Didn't know your forwards were so soft a stiff breeze could knock them on their Asses repeatedly!

it means that the habs defence owes Carey Price a steak dinner a day for the duration of their contracts. It's crazy how bad defenders can ride hot goaltending.

Price didn't have a good regular season, only played 25 games, yet Edmundson was at 54% possession with 52% dzone starts and a +23 goal differential, at even strength.

Sure, he could have been better in the playoffs, but he was playing 3 extra minutes and starting 5% more in the dzone. We rode our top 4 hard and Price did bail us out, no argument there.
Nobody is saying he's top 2 and should be playing 23 minutes a night. He is a capable 2nd pair D though and hardly as bad as you're suggesting.

lets pretend that he's an ok 2nd pairing guy, where does he play on the leafs? the 3rd pairing, he makes way too much money to be not good enough to improve the leafs defence in any way, especally at the cost of downgrading at forward

Umm, since Edmundson also plays the right side he would push Doormat out of the top 4 and make the Leafs D infinitely better

That's fair. What you said though, was that he "stinks" and is a "bad defender", which isn't fair.

Oof.

The 'advanced' stats crowd can't lose an argument. There is literally no way to prove them wrong. 'Sample size, rode a hot goalie, unsustainable PDO'.
