Only way Newhook is involved is if Hertl comes with an extension.

Also, Avs probably won't need any retention on Hertl as there should be enough cap accrued... especially if Compher is going the other way as well.

You guys might want to do other moves. This would give you the financial side of it.

And also your coach just publicly chewed him out. His value is not as high as you think. Plus this is your all in year. The future be damned.

Publicly chewed him out? Nah man, you read way to much into that. Bednar just said he hadn't stood out. Then the very next game against Minnesota (3-1 loss) he was our best forward and scored a nice goal, and Bednar rightfully praised him for it and singled him out as the best forward. I watch most of Bednar's pressers and he's usually pretty accurate in his assessment, but saying that Newhook didn't stand out was a one-off, Bednar likes him a lot otherwise, and has given him every opportunity to take the 3C spot in preseason.

Good job. Shame for you that Sakic wouldn't make this trade though.

At first I didn't like it, now I kind of like it. Giving up Merkley isn't ideal, I think Knaizev would be smarter to give up, but if its just this I'm all for this trade.

I was the same way. We actually aren’t giving up too much. And we still have a lottery pick next year to spend on a top pair defense. And our offense would be loaded going forward.

I think you guys are forgetting the the TDL tax. Everything will be a little bit more expensive. Especially a top line center with a ton of playoff experience

Anyway some team will happily pay a similar price. New hook is not the peice that makes or breaks this deal.

Lol. I should have probably read more. I went off what I was told. Still another team will pay this price. Especially if it makes or breaks your playoff status. I just believe COL would benefit to going all in this year. And a hertl extension would not be out of the question. Who wouldn’t want to play for COL and he has said he would take a discount to stay with a bad SJ team. Imagine if he got to play with COL for the next half decade.

newhook is off limits, period.
and just before you get to it...same as Byram, he is beyond off limits

You are also over estimating this so called deadline tax. Deadline trades never ever involve Newhook level prospects. Hertl is a good player but he is not elite. He’s not better than Taylor hall and look at his return

Why trade for Newhook just to send him to Buffalo in an overpayment? Just keep Newhook and call it good.
