Description
Jk :)) ... I don't necessarily think Eichel to the Avs would be a good idea but I'm bored so I spent way too long on a 4-way Eichel trade plus a separate Blackhawks trade. Feel free to come at me in the comments if you're a Bruins, Sabres, Coyotes (jk yotes fans don't exist), or Blackhawks fan.

Anyways, I figured this might work b/c bruins need more forward depth and a legitimate 2C, and could probably use another puck-moving defenseman besides McAvoy. The Eichel trade comes close to the "4 first-round talents/picks" they're looking for. Coyotes get decently valuable prospects and picks for salary retention since they're not gonna compete for a while anyways (building off @Richard88's idea). And, in this position, the Avs would be in a good position to take on Shaw's salary (which the Blackhawks are trying to get rid of) and would need another forward. So, by pairing Shaw and Gaudette, the hawks don't have to give up a pick.

p.s. Yes I know I'm sending Kadri to the Bruins

Eichel on LTIR till ‘22-23 season u mean.

The 5 teams that are interested all agreed to let him get the disc replacement surgery he wants to have. Will be out until 22-23 season. That’s the holdup with the trade and the disagreement with Buffalo. And is why the CBA got involved.

But only 26 years old and under contract till 27-28 season. But the team trading for him won’t see Eichel in their lineup this season.

Boston declines, They're not giving up Carlo and Lysell basically for basically Girard. Kadri and Kaut are basically worthless. And why would Arizona retain $2,000,000 x 5 on Jack Eichel for a bunch of worthless pieces? Good luck resigning MacKinnon for $11,000,000 with Jack Eichel on the team. And if Arizona retains $10,000,000 on Eichel a 1st round pick had better be attached.

I like Girard a lot, but Boston isn't trading Carlo, or Lysell in all likelihood (massive steal). You're also nuts if you think there's not a guaranteed 1st in any Eichel trade, and if you're convincing a team to eat half a decade of a 2mil cap hit, it's gonna cost WAY more than Shane Bowers and a 2nd. Bowers is a forgettable prospect, and you're almost certainly adding a 1st there as well.

Funny you didn't mention Kaut at all in that trade

Picked 5 spots higher than Lysell in a better draft

While also implying OP is 'nuts' for that 🤨

    This is interesting

The low Eichel return is the key issue

Colorado retaining on Kadri also doesn't really work

Girard is so much better than Carlo FWIW

    Mostly due to penalty differential

They're in an Eichel trade, And what makes you think that Kadri would even waive for Buffalo?

Look at it this way: a desperate Islanders team paid 2 2nds and a 3rd for Arizona to take on 11M of Ladd's salary over 2 years. Here, I'm asking them to take on 10M over 5 years. Bowers had a very good preseason and looks a lot better, so he's worth at least a 2nd. I think Miner projects to be some kind of NHL goalie even though he was a 7th round pick, so let's say he's worth a 3rd. So the Avs are basically giving up more than the Isles for less money retained over longer term, which is at least a good offer. Plus, I don't think Colorado is as desperate as NYI to make this deal, which gives them some leverage.

Also Kevyn Adams said he wanted 4 first-round pieces, and prospects on track to be solid NHL players are WAY better than unknown picks with the scouting department Buffalo has.

Maybe if we're talking about Eichel's value from a year ago, but I think this comes close to the 4 first-round pieces Buffalo wanted, and that's basically all they can hope for at this point. Also I think retention on Kadri for a year would work bc Eichel wouldn't be playing until close to the playoffs, and the way cap hits decrease as the season goes on. So, if Eichel comes back in March or April, that should allow him to fit on the roster. But its not like I've done any math lol, I'm just eyeballing it so I could be wrong.

Martin Kaut's value is negligible at this point imo, at least in the face of giving up a drastically better prospect in Lysell. He's not anything noteworthy as a prospect at this stage, and to act like draft position has any bearing on his trade value is just silly.

As for the rest of the deal, Kadri would obviously be appealing, but I don't really think the logistics of the Avs retaining even on an expiring deal really work out in the real world. Also optically, trading Erik Haula one game after signing him is never a good look, though I don't think that would actually stop a GM from making a move to significantly better their team.

And to the point about retention, I stand by it completely. The Yotes are retaining a substantial amount of cap space for an extremely long time, and them doing so is completely integral to the trade going through. They aren't getting nearly enough in the deal.

I like girard a lot, but you’re taking Boston’s number 2 d in this trade. I think Boston is set on d, and like the organizational structure at that position.

Kadri is a rental, very little value. You say boston could use a legit 2C, but you’re sending kadri? He sucks as a 2C.

Real poor value on that trade

Just reading this, and seeing the thousands of eichel offers, just wanted to point out that- left d is a position that is not valued highly, which makes it tough for a team that wants to move a piece like girardi for futures. Not that colorado wants to move him, but he has value and his salary being moved would make sense at least. The sabres have drafted two left d first overall in like 4 years, plus 3 of their top prospects are left d- but the majority of trades include a left d, which of course the other team is "reluctant" to give up, when even a quick glance at the sabres organizational depth chart says- these guys need high end forwards, not left d. I know that the op recognized that and tried to add a third team, to trade girard for a young higher end forward who would make sense for buffalo. And the result is predictable, nobody wants the young top 4 (maybe top pair) left d, signed cheap, if it costs a forward who could score 20 goals on a second line some day. Just felt like i needed to point that out, dont know why. Also, if its me, the cost of retaining 10 million in salary, is 2 firsts. You could possibly talk me into a first and a mix of second and prospects, but roughly, its 2 firsts. And nobody is selling cap space. Its gonna cost.
