Sharks without Eklund and wo covid

Description
I am sobbing

Based on this decision, I imagine they will likely send all the young guys back to the AHL, and I believe Hatakka can go back to Finland. The sharks are still in reset mode and aren’t trying to win this season based on sending home one of their best forwards.

Why

Don't think they wanted to burn a year of his ELC.

That and he's struggled a little bit in the NHL. Kinda sad though.

I went to the game in Ottawa he looked pretty good to me. He’s going to be a special player. I would’ve sent him down to the AHL instead

Yeah he had some really good flashes but being so young there are definitely still things for him to work on.

Honestly if they weren't gonna play him in the NHL anyway, I'm kinda glad they chose to send him back to the SHL, cause the Barracuda aren't really great at developing players.

I’m thinking Wilson didn’t want this team to compete this year. He wants to get a stronger prospect pool. Next few years

I’m still in shock about how Lucas Raymond is ripping the NHL and wasn’t doing that much in Sweden . I thought he’d be a really good player , but didn’t expect it to happen this quick

That’s exactly what it was. There’s no way the sharks have 12 better forwards that pushed him out of the lineup. They are still in this “reset” mode or whatever Wilson likes to call it

Honestly yeah I could totally see that too. Really hard to figure out what he's trying to do sometimes though lol.

They can’t really call it a rebuild cuz of Karlsson, Vlasic , Burns, Couture etc but bottoming out for 2 years, then trying to get better wouldn’t be a terrible idea

Dahlen seemed to have finally put it together . Maybe it’s time to trade Hertl and Labanc

Absolutely. That's my hope with Eklund. The SHL is probably one of the most defensive-oriented leagues around so I can see how low-production might be off-putting.

Which is honestly not what I was expecting but I'm super happy about it. Hertl maybe, Labanc (I think) for sure needs to move on.

Would be cool to see Sharks get someone like Jiricek. Basically Moritz Seider 2.0

I feel the same way, they have some good prospects but not nearly enough and more high value guys in the system sure wouldn’t hurt. This just makes me curious what their plans are for Hertl since he wants to win and be competitive.

Trade Hertl for Chytil and a 1st. Draft a C and a RD with those 2 1sts this year. Get a couple of 2nd rounders in a Labanc trade. That should really strengthen a prospect pool IMO.

Another question I have moving forward: does this mean that the sharks being Kane back to the team once his suspension is over?

I don't think this move is correlated to Kane's situation at all but I hope they still don't

Eklund is almost NHL ready, the choice hear is similar to how we Groomed Dahlin, work with him then have him go back to sweeden, hopefully he tears it up and then we bring him back next year a year stronger and hopefully a bit better.
