It provides DET a veteran winger to play along side all the young guns they have coming up for 1 more year. If the compensation is wrong then draft picks can easily be switched for different ones or even added salary retention.

I can see it happening, maybe more of a 3rd for JVR and a 5th, but he would be a good veteran pickup for Detroit. Helps to hit the cap floor, and should provide good play in the middle six.

Every single flyers AGM for next year has brought back Mjones, which is really baffling... after 3 years of being awful 3 games of being good means not much

Especially for this much, $2.5mil is more than most backups make.

Why not explain yourself here

A two round pick swap for a yearly 50 point guy

When they have cap space and want to compete

JVR has 32 sog so far his 3% shooting will rebound

I wouldn't say it's ideal but why so harsh against it?

Yup

I think he'd actually be the highest paid backup then

😳

Unreal

Driedger more of a 1b in an awkward situation

JVR I think would be a great add for Detroit. But paying a high second for him is not going to happen. Third or later pick at most. It does Philly more of a favour than it helps Detroit. We have quite e few wingers that could make the team next season. As of right now we have Vrana, Bertuzzi, Raymond, Zadina, Berggren and depending how they want to line up some other players and how we draft, Suter is probably better suited got the wing and then they're ya Rasmussen and Veleno. Also Erne and a few other depth pieces. Fabbri might come back as well who knows. So all that said adding JVR would be nice, I think he could really help Rasmussen learn how to use his size to succeed in the nhl, but paying much for him doesn't make sense for our team. It helps Philly more than it benefits Detroit so I think maybe a slight compensation to take him would be the way to go. About hitting the cap floor, I have alot of holes in the roster to fill, we will be able to hit the floor I would expect without issue without him.

I'll take jvr. Idk if thats the deal or not but id take him. He has value but how many teams could absorb the cap hit. Maybe he moves but it probably more like the voracek deal where you have to take some money back.

It can be any backup then on a 1 year deal. However, not much on the market that wouldn't demand north of 2.5mil.

Here’s a quick list of goaltenders in the NHL getting paid less than $2.5 million:

Georgiev
Brossoit
Reimer
Smith
Hill
Jones
Samsonov
Raanta
Francouz
Holtby
Campbell
Halak
Rittich
DeSmith

And that’s just the ones above $1 million. You can definitely find a backup for less than $2.5mil.

Detroit isn't giving up any valuable assets to take that caphit back. It could be a fit, but you'll basically need to give him away for Detroit to take his cap off your books.

I'm not opposed to Detroit picking up van Riemsdyk but not at that price. He's a 32yr old winger playing in his 13th season with a $7M cap hit.

JVR is 32 with a $7M cap hit and he is currently on pace for 6.8 goals
