Kings would have to look at that, pretty good value coming back.

I didn't realize Severson was such a dramatic upgrade over Holl to warrant that price??

Y’all are taking back a contract that we regret rn giving and getting a solid prospect plus a 1st and we get cap flexibility plus RFA rights to Kempe who’s a top 6 winger.

He’s on NJD shutdown pair with Smith. All he’ll need to do is not pinch and play defence while Rielly does Rielly things

Don't know how the afford Kempe next season with no big expiring contracts. Is Severson really that much better than Holl....no.
I shake at the idea of Clifford as the 13th forward and would see NHL action because of injuries to any of the other twelve forwards

Holl plus Engvall probably gets Subban (retained) but is long way from Severson.

We will be able to. Kerfoot is probably gone next season and we will finally have a lot of the Dubas drafted players in the team next year. Robertson, Bunting, Kempe, and Steeves should round out a strong LW group and Kase wants to play with Kampf. He will take a pay cut 100%

Not really y’all get a 1st as well. That’s an overpayment if anything especially with the poor chemistry Smith and Severson pairing has.

He isn't, but on this site, ALL RHDs in league are better than Leafs. Actually the perception is 95% of ALL Dmen in the league are better than Dermot, Holl and Liljegren. I just don't know how the Leafs finished 7th in GAA last season, and is 10th in GAA this season with all these crappy Dmen.

It’s not that. Holl poor judgement gets him in crap. He pinched when he doesn’t need to and tries to do too much sometimes. Severson is a bridge between going from RHDs Brodie, Severson and Liljegren to Liljegren, Niemela and Brodie which will happen in 2 yrs.

Also the reason for Toronto defensive improvement is due to the NZ FC they use. They use a similar one to NYI and TBL. They use the 1-1-3. Before they use the 1-2-2 which is far easier to beat than the 1-1-3.

I would think Severson would be a better fit with Muzzin. Can play the shutdown minutes but can also help drive the transition when bottom-6 is on ice.

His ability in possession game is really underrated and one of his strengths. And his weaknesses (filling shot lanes, moving bodies around his own crease) could be balanced by some of Muzzins strengths.

Don't know why you say Kerfoot is gone. He's playing well and the Leafs have really just three, with Kerfoot four NHL capable centres. Sorry I don't agree with your optimism about drafted players being Leafs next season.....maybe Robertson but that's it. Leafs best prospects,,,,and they aren't that great or many play in Europe, and won't be NHL ready next season.

Good point. At the end of the day Severson fills a need and NJD are 1-2yrs away from actually comepeting. Imo it’s smarter to grab assets so you can spend them later when you’re ready to contend.

Literally all they need is two forward prospects. Both Alex Stevees and Nick Robertson are NHL ready but has a lot of depth in front of em. When Kerfoot is traded in the off-season it would be for assets that can play with the Leafs for a lower cap hit/draft capital. We have lots of prospects that will be NHL ready next year and the year after.

Oops. I missed the pick. That makes it better, but think if Severson were ever to be traded, it would likely be for the best winger they could get. Preferably one that knows how to bury the puck. Another pick is probably not enticing enough.

Where did you get that the Smith/Severson chemistry was poor? It seems like such a random thing. They had one bad game earlier this year (maybe you saw that game?). But otherwise have been fine as a pair going back to middle of last season.

Seems not practical that the Leafs could trade 3.5m Kerfoot and then be just as good with lower cap hit taking his place. No reason to think Robertson will be NHL ready reason...although he might have the best shot at it. And no the do NOT have lots of prospects that will be NHL ready next season. There isn't one goalie, one Dman or forward (with the exception of Robertson or Steeves) that could be considered NHL ready for next season.

Them as a pairing has been one of the worst currently in terms of XGF %. Might be a sophomore slump from Smith but still maybe having a new d partner, or a younger one coming up might do wonders for the pairing

Oh. My.

Besides height and higher AAV, Severson is better than him in every regard. Analytic community raves over him, he throws massive hits, plays a solid D game while also putting up decent point totals. He's been my (realistic) dream partner for Rielly for the last 4 years. Do some research my man!

Smiths first few games coming back from injury were lackluster. He has been better lately. I think he will be okay, but I’d be open to anything.

I think there is some merit to the argument of playing Smith on right-side to get more offense out of him (so on right point in o-zone). But I wouldn’t trade Severson to do that.

Holl for the past years and this year plays having minutes. But when he makes a mistake, Leaf fans are over him. Wish myself and other Leafs could witness other Dmen in the league, who according to many are faultless.
Gee, I haven't heard any comments on Ekholm, being pushed checked off the puck in his own zone, leading to a Leaf goal last night. If that had been Holl or Dermot, they would taking to gallows by so many on CF. You may be right about Severson being a big upgrade, but I'm doubting it.

I mean you know the pairing better than I do. I just look at the xGF% and seen the pair struggling, hence why I’m tryna pick him from NJD.

If you say he’s that good we still want him maybe we might throw in a conditional 3rd or something to get it done as rn Toronto doesn’t need picks.
