Description

This is a go for the cup build. I have overpaid in picks to get Chicago retain so that i can build up room to add Chiarot. Kane is an upgrade on the Ice over Kassian and at that price point I don't care that his paycheck goes to Riverrock Casino. Teh Sharks get a replacement for Kane's physically and save money by not buying Kane out. Our picks are mauled for a couple of seasons, but we are flush with prospects right now and need to win now.

You haven't overpaid Chicago, in fact you are probably missing a 3rd or 4th rounder on that deal to Chicago since you are expecting them to take on all that cap to help Edmonton since it definitely doesn't help Chicago

I think you guys need to look at the big picture. Everyone of those players is a free agent at the end of the year. So when its all said and done the oilers have the right's to Strome and the Blackhawks have a 1st and 2nd round pick. That seems like a big win for you guys here. Sure we get a playoff run with Fleury, but he will not be affordable long term so this is a one and done thing.

I think you're missing the fact that it costs teams money to ask another team to take on useless cap; no team is doing that for charity. Obviously, every year teams acquire good players for a 1 year rental in effort to get a cup and the price is usually steep.

Who are you referring to that the Hawks need to trade and pay another team to do so? Hawks don't have cap issues, aren't going to be competing for a cup, and therefore have no need to pay someone to take on cap. The Oilers however, if they want to get an upgrade at goalie such as Flowers, and expect a team to take cap back, the price of Flowers increases.
