You won't get a top 6 winger and Liljegren with a 1st for Letang.

TB has$712 cap space when Kucherov and Point come back and have to send ABB down to get that much

Think of cap space, and a chance at the cup. It’s an overpay, but not by much. If I’m Toronto, yes it’s a little painful, but a middle six c/w that is REPLACEABLE.

I am thinking about a chance at the cup. The Leafs biggest need right now is a top 6 left winger, not a defenseman. Trading Kerfoot just means they need 2 of them, creating a giant hole in the lineup. Its an immediate no from the Leafs. The reality is that Kerfoot here is really Ritchie. Brings the value into line, makes the situation work for the Leafs and makes the cap work.

Cap space can be figured out. That would be tough to face 3 legit number one lines in a row

The major thing to consider is does this move the needle enough to get Colorado to the cup. Young core gets stronger.

I would add Jeff carter. Probably for a minor add from Toronto. Think B prospect, mid round pick ish.

And the Leafs would tell you to take Ritchie rather than moving their top 6 LW with term remaining. You can keep ZAR.

they can get someone to fit on their 2nd line wihtout giving up newhook,
also moving 3 roster players for 1 hurts their cup depth. Now they have a more holes to fill on the current team and they hurt in one of their glaring weakness...Centre. You traded 3 guys who can play that down the middle

you win down the middle.....so great now Avs have Mackinnon then Matlsev as their new 2C?

Maf has been a league avg goalie all told at this phase of career and you'd be signing him for age 37-40 no less, with clauses and big money and whatnot

He's been like prime bobrovsky

Alternately bad then good Confused

Edit:

Not as good as prime bob obv just similar pattern

Landeskog moving back there works ok tho

Then they're stacked at C

🤷‍♂️

And at wing

And on D

It's just really tough to see Toronto let go of Kerfoot when he's very crucial given their LW issues and are very deep at RD with Dermott even, so it's tricky

If the Letang trade happened with a FF trade maybe

That's a lot of Toronto to give up in one tdl
