If Carrier is better than Holl why would Nashville do that trade? Carrier is cheaper and has more controllable years.

Holl is vilified by this market but around the league his value is up there.

Carrier only broke out this season and plays less TOI and is a little more sheltered compared to Holl. Holl QOC and QOT is the highest in Toronto along with Jake Muzzin

Then by your logic, Holl is the better player. (I don't disagree). Since the Leafs are in a win mode, the Leafs should keep Holl

Yea but it’s evident it’s not working out rn. He’s been shelled when he’s on the ice the past few games and not been himself this season. We know the management team is high on him but maybe a change of scenery will get him back to his former self. Carrier brings a bit more puck movement to the pair with Muzzin and and is still defensively responsible..

Then, if what you say is true....I don't know why Nashville would trade for the younger most expensive, less term Holl.

Tempting offer for Hagel, but need a better prospect in the deal cause it would have to be a wow offer to move him

It’s also depending on where Nashville is in the standings. They’re rn 3rd in the central but WPG and COL ain’t in any playoff spots rn. They’ll probably fall out of their spot. If that’s the case they can easily turn that Carrier trade into 2 2nds off that Holl trade or maybe we don’t trade Holl to them and we trade a prospect to help jumpstart their retoll.

Either way if Carrier comes to Toronto Holl is out. He’s has value, teams will be endlessly phoning out line to get him. Carrier can be the better player later but isn’t rn.

It’s fair offer. Rindell is a good offensive dman prospect that shoots right, which your team lacks after trading boqist. Will need some work on the defensive side but he’s a no seen day offensive dman in the making

Chicago’s not a prime destination for offensive defensemen

It’s a good deal for a team needing a retool to be competitive during that 8yr deal of Seth Jones. A 1st plus a solid prospect that Chicago missing in their pool would help the retool.

If you can’t move the puck or skate it out you can’t be a defenceman anymore. Even the modern day defensive dman should all be based off Charlie McAvoy not the old school can’t skate, heavy hitting, shot blockers.

Look at how Colorado, Tampa and all other contenders focus on puck movement on the back end

Nashville wouldn’t trade carrier for an older dman. We’re in the middle of retooling and the move doesn’t make sense for us

Hagel is young and someone who we should keep for our future take De Haan instead

When you get picks it does. By the time you’re ready to compete he’s gonna be 30, which is normally the age of decline of a defenceman.

Don’t need De Hann. You’re top 2 LW positions are already filled with Kubalik and DeBrincat. The LW is wide open after next season with Kerfoot more than likely moved due to cap constraints.

And the 2nd round pick could be a complete bust. Our lead dmen are 30 right now and the next big group is mid 20s and then some low 20s. We will need that group in the mid 20s (Fabbro, carrier, Myers?) to anchor the group as the 30s (Josi, Ekholm) age out.

Fabbro is the future of that blue line. If you draft well (Nashville is known to do) 2nd rounders become extremely valuable. You can get the same quality player from picks 20 till end of the 2nd. I mean the past 2 drafts the Leafs gots absolutely steals with their 2nd round and 3rd round picks.

My mistake money puck has him as the 2nd line winger on their site. But you’re taking Hagel over Kubalik who was a 30 goal scorer. It makes zero sense to keep Hagel if that’s the case especially since Bowman set y’all retool back 3 years.

Kubalik hasn’t been the greatest this year only like what 8 points in 23 games

Ok but you rather give up a former 30 goal scorer? Kubalik will be better player in the long run.

No but I mean Chicago still has a decent bit of cap space to sign Kubalik and Dach

I understand than perspective but what I’m saying wouldn’t it make more sense to get picks and start filling in organizational depth through drafting?

Pick up a LHD for the future, maybe another centre so y’all can push Toews to 3rd line centre when y’all ready to compete for a cup again. The foundation is there but I think it’s better to toss this season and build around more picks over the next couple of years?

But like Chicago is happy with Hagel so he’s pretty much an untouchable not quite one but relatively close to one
