Allen and Toffoli are likely off season deals, the rest are fine

So MTL trades for Jake Allen with term for a 3rd rd pick, then poof he is worth a 2nd AND a prospect? The Avs aren’t trading for a goalie. That’s a no.

My only issue with Toffoli is he is signed after this year and we don’t have a ton of cap room. We either need to resign or extend Strome, extend Kakko, sign a backup and fill out the roster. I guess we could try to move Nemeth, but it definitely makes things more challenging. If not for the cap I don’t think there’s any reason why we wouldn’t consider the trade above.

That value isnt far off (fair to say that Avs have no interest in the deal) but habs gave up a 3rd for Allen who was in the last year of his contract and had a cap hit 4.35mil. So its not completely unreasonable to think that Allen with an extra year on his his contract and at a more manageable cap hit could fetch a 2nd +.

Easy declines for Edmonton and Colorado. I like the Rangers deal, we just cant do it because of the future cap hit. Any trade for Toffoli to the Rangers, we would need his cap hit to be retained 50%.

I disagree, and the reason is because nobody is paying that price for a back up goalie. For the sake of argument the Avs trade for him and Kuemper is healthy, they aren’t paying a 2nd a prospect for a guy that is going to play 20 games and not play in the playoffs. And no nobody is going to pay that price as insurance, at least imo. Goalie values are really hard to gauge, I think the Avs over paid for Kuemper because they got in a bind, but look at the other goalies, MAF netted a 2nd after a Vezina season granted he has a big hit. I just think a lot of these Allen trades unless there is an injury are very optimistic.

Thats fair it may not be a 2nd + a prospect, i was just saying that a 2.8 mil Allen with another year should bring more than a third if thats what he was worth at a 4.35 mil cap hit. I dont think Aves are the team that is going to pay that either, but i think its possible to find a team willing to give a second for Allen.

I get what you’re saying, I don’t think somebody pulling the trigger on Allen for a 2nd is an impossibility I just think teams are VERY skittish about investing assets in goalie acquisitions. I mean Seattle passed on Price for free, which kind of surprised me, and VGK before the start of last year was shopping MAF with a 2nd just to move his contract. 🤷‍♂️
