Seems more like bad talent evaluation rather than luck

Its not luck, thats the only thing NYR does have. Rangers just have no idea how to develop forward prospects

The unlucky part is neither of them were centers. All they got was wingers that don’t score.

They could trade 1OA (Laffy) or 2nd OA( Kakko) for a center before they drafted, the picks had more value at that time.

But I remember rangers were so high on Laffy that there was no way in hell they trade that pick. And from what I saw here, there where really good offers here and rangers fans were like ''Rangers laugh at you, no way we make that deal''.

Wtf? I know Hughes has been a little disappointing, but he'd still go in the top 5 of a redraft easily. Not to mention that he's only been getting better since his rookie season, and with his potential, the sky's the limit.

He’s at worst 3rd in a re-do lol had a really nice year last year and has 6 pts in 7 games this year not sure what the heck this guy is looking at. Sounds like a biased Ranger fan

The Rangers were a playoff team the season they got the 1st pick. How much F****** luckier can you be? It's like you had god damn leprechaun shoved up your a**.

Simply overlooked... Sure we won 1 & 2 oa Yet that turned out to be a curse. Had zero choice but to pick 2 decent Ws as they were unanimous. More like a jinx. Lucky we've found kids in other picks.

Fox Lindgren Shesterkin Buchnevich and also Zibanejad went from looking like a failed prospect in Ottawa to 1C with the Rangers. Plus Kakko and Miller are on track.

Until 2017 the Rangers didn't take prospect/player development seriously but their track record since then has been very good.

Fox Lindgren and Shesterkin are not forwards
Buchnevich played 5 games in the minors, he came straight from the KHL and when almost instantly to the NHL.
Zib was a 50 point 22 year old regular in the NHL when he was traded, thats not development at all. Thats like saying Calgary developed Lindholm into an elite 2-way 1C when he was acquired and instantly played 1st line
Kakko hasn't lived up to expectations at all yet
Miller, again a defense not sure why you are bringing him up?
