Ullmark out

Created by: Bias4bruins

Initial Creation Date: Jan. 6, 2022

Description
Might be a little steep for Edmonton but to get a starting goalie right now who’s any good might be a task and a new goalie might be exactly what this contending team needs to turn it around. As for the AZ trade, I have a hard time believing Chychrun will get more than Jack eichel but where AZ doesn’t have to sell they do have leverage. Seems a lot of AZ fans are saying bruins don’t have exactly what they want so I thought let them pick their own needs. Bruins still have a huge hole at 2C but at least the defence is secure for years.

I'm sure NMC Ullmark declines.

With a full NMC, that will likely lower the price for Ullmark as he'll get a full say in where he's willing to waive to make a trade work. If he was willing to come to Edmonton, I can't imagine they'd have much of a problem paying a 1st seeing as he has term at market value and has been fairly consistent with his stats.

If its a starter in edmonton or future third string in boston, I’m guessing he takes edmonton.

My thoughts is with rask coming back he could be looking at 2 or more years as backup and by then we’d want swayman ready, this would give him his true #1 goalie

Is Rusk returning for next year? Ullmark has the leverage to go to a team that he may want instead of the chronic out of the playoffs Oilers, with a terrible schedule, never mind the winter weather.
Gee, if I'm Ullmark, I get into trade negotiations..... And when the team is selected....I think New Jersey,,,,won't be any first rounder, a third rounder, and if Bruins don't like it, carry this 5m cap hit you don't want.

Or he could be looking to play out the season and make a decision on his future in the off-season, which is the soonest I see Boston moving Ullmark (if at all)

I don’t see Rask going through all this effort to get back for half a season just to retire unless he’s injured again, I mean if he won’t go to Edmonton because they “don’t make the playoffs” I doubt he wants to go to New Jersey. And do players get to choose their return in a trade?

The NMC is only for this year and next. I think there would be a bunch of teams interested.

Anyhow, there’s a 0.0% chance that Rask only intended to come back for this year. He said that if he didn’t intend to continue playing hockey, he wouldn’t have bothered getting this surgery. Going through all that rehab to come back and play for a couple months and then call it quits? No shot. He has said that he wanted to play three years beyond his previous contract. I think that makes sense.

Tough to call the oilers a, “chronic out of the playoffs,” team when they are currently in a playoff position, and have made the playoffs literally the last three seasons.

Yea I’m not saying it’s likely he’s moved I just see a need in Edmonton and wish we could take back this signing.

Can anyone remember a time when a player signed a multi year deal and got moved before he even finished the 1st season?

Tough to see Ullmark get moved for two reasons:

1) It’s basically Sweeney admitting that the he either A) was wrong about Rask being able to return to hockey or B) the Ullmark deal was a bad idea (if he knew Rask was coming back why not just bring in a guy on a one year deal as a place filler

2) It’s hard to sell future free agents on signing if you’ve just traded a guy 4 months into a 4 year deal. It’s why nobody ever gets delt in year 1 (short of a complete organizational collapse). Players always say how they like the stability of having term on their deals.

Anyways, between COVID and the 40 games in like 85 days the Bs have coming up they’re probably going to need all 3

Interesting. Ullmark just seems a bit pricey. But EDM should consider that.
