Gio and Appleton

Initial Creation Date: Jan. 9, 2022

Description
Big Giordano fan, I really want to see him raise the cup. I also think he could be an option beyond this season. Also think Appleton is a stud, hasn’t been great this year but was a big part of Winnipeg last year. I like Kostin, but he isn’t particularly effective and I prefer Neighbours and Brown going forward (and Appleton.)

Gio on the Blues would be terrific. I'd be cheering for them to win it all.

I love the guy, idk if the footspeed will hold up on a run and gun style team like the Blues, but he can defend and is super smart.

I guess I'll be that guy: Not really interested in that. If the '22 1st leaves it better be something like Chych or Lindholm coming back.

Fair, let’s see if Lindholm becomes available. Fwiw I do think Gio has 1-2 years left and I bet we’d have a better shot at re-signing him than Lindholm. I wonder if I could rework it, but it’s hard with the cap because Scandella is really the only guy who could go another way to balance it.

Man, I don't know...if they can add Gio and not have to give up Perunovich going the other way like he'd have to in a Chychrun or Lindholm trade, I'm all in. You are talking about a low-mid 1st rd pick anyway. I love the idea of Parayko having a seasoned vet on the other side, especially one that could help him have more offensive impact.

As for Appleton, he's a taxi squad guy or AHL. Doubt he sees ice unless another round of injury/COVID problems.

I kinda like this. Agree with you that Kostin would be the odd man out with Brown + Neighbours so might as well move him. Gio is a better target than Chiarot - just going to be hard to find a trade partner that would take Marco back the other way (and a place that isn't on Marco's no-trade list). I definitely worry about Gio's foot speed but if he brought stability to the Parayko pairing, the cost would be worth it. And then you hope for a Bozak-like situation where Gio likes the fit and signs on for a dirt cheap deal w bonuses. Feels like the Blues don't have the prospect firepower for Chychrun so this would be a nice lesser move.

Gio would bring so much to the blue line in terms of experience and ability to play...the more I think about it the more I like it. Krug-Faulk, Gio-Parayko, Mikkola/Perunovich-Bortz (or one of those guys plays their off hand).

Still not clean on the 3rd pairing but it's playable.

I think the question is do you move Kostin+Scandella+1st for Gio or add Perunovich and get Chychrun instead?

1- If he comes cheaper, fine. I want something better if we have to we give up the '22 1st. I like Perunovich, too, but I could let him go if it's for a really strong, also young LD like Chych.

2- Yeah, I've never thought much of him. He doesn;t even make the line-up for the Blues.

He was okay, but he wasn't that good. My 2 cents anyway. I've seen a lot of people say good things about him, just never really agreed.

If that package gets Chychrun then I say you go for it, but I'm not entirely convinced that it's a fit for ARI. Scotty is only a few months younger than Chych and the Yotes should be building a core of even younger players... I think some of the offers that they would get would include a younger, more promising player as the base. For example, if LA puts Clarke or Turcotte on the table.

Good point on Perunovich's age, but he is still on ELC so I think it's fair to treat him as a bit younger than his actual age -- you figure they keep him under team control for the next 5 or 6 years at least. With that said Chych does have 3 more years on his deal and you'd think the Coyotes would hope to have a good team on the ice by that point. I don't think they are in a position where they have to trade him like Seattle does with Gio so you very well might be right that Perunovich+Kostin+Scandella+1st doesn't get it done, especially if teams like LA come with better offers.

He's not having a good season this year, but there is still potentially some untapped offensive upside with him as he seemed to demonstrate in the 2021 shortened Covid season if you look at his numbers
