Yeah, that ain't enough. As good as Nylander is and may be, Doughty is one of the best Dman in the world. Takes a lot to get a lot.

Think about from LA's perspective, you think they would want Nylander, couple of decent players and a 1st for Doughty? I don't think so.

It would take probably Nylander, Kapanen/Dermot and a 1st. Or something along those lines.

not close to enough for Doughty..

If I'm LA I'm not doing it unless its Marner, Kapanen, and a 1st at least.

Yeah sorry Doughty will be the last player that LA trades, And you're not even close to getting Doughty here.

LA doesn't have the leverage here though. I mean they have over 21 mil between Brown, Kopitar and Carter and a team that plays slow and heavy. If they're actually rebuilding then this is the way to go, but I don't think they want that yet. Their cap situation is decent, but the core is old and declining imo. If they don't make the playoffs next year I think they move doughty since his contract is going to expire soon.

Either way the Leafs are not trading nylander anytime soon. They wait and see what they have in him first

Nice idea. TOR would be fierce with Doughty on the blue line, but it would probably take Nylander, JVR and a 1st. And maybe another pick yet.

Doubt LA has any interest in another slow aging vet (JVR). If Doughty is moving it's going to be for a big piece(s) like Marner/Kapanen/and a pick..

Leverage? They have all the leverage. Even if Doughty is going to want a new contract he might get a raise of like $1-2M max? The Kings have the ability to fit that into their future plans easy. Carter is actually still good and has a lot left in the tank and Kopitar is just having an awful year. The Gaborik/Brown contracts are horrendous now, but with Pearson, Toffoli, Kopitar, and Carter they have the top portion of the lineup set for a few more good years and the blue line is in really good shape. There is absolutely ZERO chance you can "leverage" a team into trading their homegrown superstar they drafted for peanuts lol just stop you're over thinking it. That would be like The Flyers offering the Leafs Simmonds, Konecny, and Ghost for Matthews and saying we have leverage because you don't have enough space after signing Nylander & Marner...

Agree with above...Marner is the first piece followed by kapanen and at least a first possibly even two firsts.
It's my belief though that Doughty is the last player La would trade and he has no interest in leaving the Kings, that he spent his youth dreaming of playing for.

Can't the Leafs wait to two years and sign Doughty (or someone else ) as a UFA, without giving up some of their youth?
Why do the Leafs always have to give up their young players?. Can't these high end players that are constantly traded be traded to some of the other 29 teams in the NHL?

If the Leafs desired, they could sign Alzner or Shattenkirk, overpay them and keep Nylander and all the others suggested and still have cap space.

How do you not understand that LA WILL NOT DO THAT. They will not ever let him go to UFA. EVER. So your suggestions on "why they just don't wait until he goes to UFA and sign him (i.e Tavares, Doughty, etc.)" is not realistic from a GM's standpoint at all.

Mr Cap. You're saying LA will never let Doughty go. Then why to so many folks think he's going to become a Leaf (not me). I'll agree with you that Doughty will never be a Leaf via trade or UFA.
But I will disagree on your logic. "LA will never let him go." Just by definition being a free agent and choosing to sign is a players choice.

Why did not understand that I'm not for the Doughty trade. Gee your hate for me is so strong you can't read straight.

I never said they will not let him go (at least that's not what I meant). What I was saying is that they will not let him go via UFA. If he starts mentioning 'his exit' then they will get the idea to trade him for lots and lots of assets.

I don't think it matters what other people think because these people mentioning it aren't GM's. Or maybe they are idk.

I realize that you ain't for the Doughty trade. Haha cheers

MrCap: I know every situation is different but he with Doughty, Carter, Toffoli? and Koptitar, the Kings still aren't in the playoffs. Even one of their Cup wins, they had finished eight in the Conference but somehow (to their credit) won the Cup. So I'm of the belief adding Doughty would be nice, but when have to subtract other current Leafs, are the Leafs THAT much better off? Of course we'll never know cause I can't imagine the Kings (or the Leafs) making such a deal.

Fair enough, but if you want to add a player of his caliber, then you gotta give up a huge piece of your core. Or trade away all of your best prospects.
