MASSIVE overpay by the Pens. A 2nd + Blomqvist? No way. Plus you're adding Kulak. a dman the Pens have no need for.

I'd re-shape this to send DeSmith, Zucker, 3rd and either Hallander or Bjorkqvist. Blomqvist is an above average goalie prospect and I just don't think that combo is worth it.

So personally I'd frame it like this...

TO MTL: Zucker, DeSmith, 3rd and Hallander or BJorkqvist
TO PIT: Allen + Lehkonen

That’s not bad...I’m really just looking for a backup because the last thing all of us want is Jarry starting 60+ games and flaming out in the playoffs because they don’t address the only blatant issue on the roster.

Oh, the Pens definitely need the backup. I'm in total agreement. The only thing I'd add as well is maybe retain $1M on Allen if we're adding in one of those prospects.

Not even close.

Zucker is negative value. it would cost the pens a 2nd or 3rd to move him based on the arizona trades made last offseason.

Gruden is a fringe AHLer at this point is next to worthless.

Domingue is worthless.

Blomqvist is decent this year but that is a very small sample size (only 5 liiga starts)

So its Allen Lehkonen and Kulak for essentially blomqvist.

Per scouts surveyed by the Athletic, Allen is worth a first.

Allen for Blomqvist+ 2nd could be considered. Everything else is just noise. IMO another team would make a better offer.

Worth a 1st, yes. However, he would be acquired as a backup and teams aren't giving up a 1st for a guy they hope they don't need to use in the playoffs. Not when they can use it to add to their F/D and get more performance value.

If you have a team counting on Allen as part of a tandem, or even as a starter until the end of next season, it's possible. Just not likely.
Best you can hope for is a 2nd and decent prospect. Anything higher is a bonus.

Don't think Montreal would do that. Montreal has zero value to Montreal and they can't afford his cap hit anyways, so he's negative value to them. Domingue is a warm body coming back, but doesn't really do much. Really, Blomqvist is the real prize, but goaltending is hard to project, and the Habs have a couple of good goalie prospects in the system and its unclear how the Price situation will evolve. Value is there, but it would be easier to just move Allen and Lehkonen for 2nds and Kulak for a late round pick and call it a day.

There's no reason Montreal would ever do that. Come on.

I understand Blomqvist is the real prize, but what MTL is offering simply isn't worth it. Also, I swapped out Domingue with DeSmith.

We don't need Kulak at all, so you can move him for a late pick somewhere else.

I'm not saying MTL should do that, but I'm saying that's what it would be worth from the Pens.

Swapping DeSmith and Domingue doesn't matter at all, its just a warm body for the rest of the season to replace Allen. And at the end of the day, Montreal can either get the equivalent of 2 seconds elsewhere for Allen and Lehkonen or they can take Zucker (negative value to Montreal), DeSmith (No value to Montreal), a 3rd and a disposable prospect. Why would any selling team ever do that?

I think you're taking this the way wrong way, my man. If you can get better returns then you should absolutely do it. I'm just showing what the Pens would be able to give up.

Hextall has vocally made our 1st & 2nd round picks untouchable. We have very few GOOD prospects and while Allen certainly has value, the Pens can upgrade without having to give up their best futures.

Allen would not be a backup in PIT (or EDM,SJ,etc). Also he has one year left on his deal, you dont acquire him only for one playoff run. Thus the high value.
