What Should Be Done This Off-season But Wont Be Done

Created by: CementHead27
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 18, 2022
Published: Jan. 18, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
All of this is based off this team missing the playoffs.

If that happens…Holland should retire or be fired. Send Tippett packing as well. Major personnel changes needs to be made as well. Dead money lol Keith and Kassian have to go. Leaders have to be brought in who can also still play. Price and Gallagher can still play and both are real leaders.

I’m sure people will think I’m crazy for trading Leon but if this team fails one major piece needs to go and he’s it. 97 isn’t going anywhere. Nurse was resigned to a horrendous deal and he can’t be move now. Barrie could go but his cap hit isn’t awful for what he gives us on PP. Ceci is a little overpaid but moving him doesn’t do much for cap issues.

Jarvis gives us a sniper and playing him with RNH would be one dynamic 2nd line. Boyd is one hell of an underrated player and I think he can be signed on the cheap and centre a line with those two talents. The best part of these moves is adding Slavin into our D and improving ur bottom six with guys like Martinook, Appleton, Geekie, and Marchment. Gallagher is the perfect middle sixer who can play up and down a lineup. This is a much better team than we currently hace

I can't see MTL retaining on Gallagher, especially not 500k. It uses a retention spot for almost nothing for 5 seasons.

Edmonton fans are going to lose their minds over the Montreal trade regardless, simply because Price and Holloway are involved.
I'll simply point out that it makes more sense to lump the retention onto Price than waste a spot doing $500k for Gallagher.

Habs accept but rather retain extra on price then wasting a 500k retention on Gallagher

Whatever it takes to fix our goaltending I’m willing to do. Gallagher is the part I’m sure I’ll get heck for but he’s worth it for a team that’s trying to win. Sometimes you have to overpay a guy for leadership. The idea with bringing in Keith was for leadership but he can’t play anymore. Gallagher can

price is restarting his rehab so I dont think thats the best trade option and your paying 2 1st and a good prospect for a injury prone goalie along with a player I personally like but I don't think he's worth his contract. I think the leon trade is decent but if you trade mcdavid or leon every trade is going to be a loss.

McDavid is Crosby Leon is Malkin. As great as Crosby and Geno are I think we all know who’s more important

Targets work. Most here don't seem to see it that way.

That's really absurd for the Oilers to take on 13m cap in two players like Price and Gallagher without giving "bad" cap back to Montreal. Kinda crazy to think Price "can play". Lot better, cheaper options available this summer and don't have to give up young cheap assets.

Exactly this. This is a nice deal for MTL who dump two often-injured players with big contracts for a ton of young and cheap players and picks. No guarantee Price returns to his pedigree and quite frankly with all of his setbacks there is no reason to believe he will. I love Gallagher as a player but just think with Hyman, Nuge, Drai, McD, and soon to be JP, they have lots of money tied up to their top 6 forwards.

This deal just caries way too much risk for the Oilers. They need cheaper, skilled guys to contribute. Can't dump all of them for players on the decline.

You are out of your mind if you think Price isn’t going to play again and play well. His career is far from over
