Sounds like a coaching issue to me. Although when I look at the roster I see a big issue with how it's constructed. Lots of decent wingers, very little down the middle and a total lack of puck moving ability on the blueline. Couple that with major long term cap issues and this is a really bad situation for the Habs.

Personally I would love to see Montreal and TO both good at the same time but right now I can't see Montreal being good for a very long time. Even if they get Wright, how do they keep the team together when they have dead cap in Weber, Price, Petry, Gallagher and Anderson down the road?

Looking back at the Bergevin era, he got lucky and got Price. He's the single reason for most of if not all the success the team has had. Now it's all showing really, really bad. People will point to the cup final run last year where they were completely outclassed and say that counts for something but I don't buy it. Sometimes bad GM's get lucky and get credit for stuff that was not remotely their success.

Definitely roster issues as well.
Center is a decade long weakness. No excuse for that other than the people responsible were fired, and justifiably so.
Puck moving D, we took a flyer on a few and it didn't work out as hoped. Their fault, or the coach? Difficult to determine, but probably some of both.

Still doesn't excuse the lack of offense. A good coach implements systems which maximize the performance of what they have, not based on what they are missing.

Montreal has great winger depth. Even if you account for a lack of puck moving defensemen, they should be scoring with offensive zone starts and on the power play. To be dead last on the PP with this forward group is inexcusable.

I see a defence that would work great with a defence first system and forwards who work for a transition run and gun style. Which just doesn't work well.

Well I see no way MTL getting that for Chairot considering that ask has been out there for months and it still has not happened. Perhaps the deal is light on the return. Regarding Koskinen IF MTL is a seller you're taking money to facilitate trades rather than making roster upgrades.

You really dont get how the salary cap and Trade deadline works.

The less games are left, the easier we will fit under the cap, the more teams will be interested, the higher the price will be...

I don't think you will find a Habs fan anywhere who would disagree with you regarding MB and his roster construction as being horrible. The cup run had more to do with the players deciding to play for each other and refusing to allow the bad coaching and the team make up dictate how far they went. The players took us to the cup final in spite of how bad MB was not because of his roster construction.

Having bad results on a bad team does not mean the player is bad. Situation can be everything, so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Chiarot come to EDM play 3rd pair and produce better metrics than his current head below water situation on MTLs top pairs

Chiarot sucks it’s not an advanced stats thing. He isn’t good. Also those analytics account for the team, that’s why they’re reliable
