IMO, Canucks didn't give him a chance.
League Min $$, so a good depth deal, no risk.
He's got some bite and is just 25-still so might be the late-bloomer/D-seasoning type for 5-7D placement...
Not bad as a 7th or 8th D man. Still needs to prove himself, especially on the PK, has the potential of becoming a legit bottom pairing tough defenseman. Honestly if the Canucks hadn't resigned Harmonic he might still be on the team.

Evander Kane and Eric Staal I believe are all thats left rn.

No he wouldn't, Chatfield is a good physical presence on the blueline, but he's liable to force plays sometimes and doesn't have particularly hockey IQ. He's not going to be anything more than a 7th/8th defenseman at best. I suppose Carolina has done a nice job sheltering him in the 7 games that he has played for them so far
Chatfields effort is always there, but he is prone to bad decisions. gambling like he was Erik Karlsson at the worst times, and he is more Luke Schenn than Karlsson.

The best thing about him getting a 2 year deal is it keeps him away from vancouver for two years.
He made the team worse whenever he was on the ice for us. I am glad he has found a role in Carolina and has benefitted from their strong defensive system.

Yeah, he was way worse than Schenn, Poolman, Myers, Hunt, E-Lar, Sautner, Hamonic, Schmidt (stuck around long enough for a cup of strong Vanc. coffee), Burroughs...blah-blah-blah-blah
Jim Benning as an ex-NHL DMan is like John Elway in NFL can't find a decent D-core OR QB; respectively...

Yes, OEL, Schenn, Poolman, Myers and last year's version of Hamonic are all better than Chatfield. That isn't even an argument. We replaced his role with Kyle Burroughs this year, who by the eye test has also been better than Chatfield.
Chatfield did not work with Green's system, and certainly wouldn't have worked under the new aggression based system Bruce has brought.
I cannot stress enough that I am glad he found a role on a team that suits his style of play better, but you can't fit a square peg into a round hole... nothing about the way Chatfield plays fits this team.

-13G differential yes they are both aggressive & highly effective!
It's night time - not the best time for rose-coloured glasses.

Yes, use a useless metric. The hurricanes are an elite squad all in all, and Vancouvers goal differential is much better after the coaching change. The OEL Myers pairing is solid on 5v5 and has allowed some of the fewest 5v5 goals out of any routine pairing league wide.
If you are about to try and convince me that Jalen Chatfield is better than any of the canucks top 4, based on a stat as useless as goal differential, then I've found the fourth guy to complete my top four ignore list.

Ignore Away MoFo...(buttons on the left)
Read my orig quote ^ ^ and stop trying to put words in my mouth...
I said he'd be a 5-7 D-Man.
That equals = key club depth, 10-12min a night, drop em' if you got 'em/stick up for a bro' - not a Canuck strong point....
Go back and look again.
If you ask me who/whom on the Canucks he looked "most" like - I'd say Bieksa.
Another very late bloomer, how'd that turn out again?
Adios...
