fixing flaws

Description
Kassian trade: a lot of GMs probably see Kassian as a solid player who can play up and down the lineup (even though he can't). Everyone know's Kassian doesn't really have value to him but there's for sure a few GMs that are dumb enough to acquire him without making the oilers retain or give up an asset.

Barrie trade: Buffalo is slowly starting to get out of thier rebuild stage and wants to improve the team hence acquiring Tuch and Krebs. Barrie will help fill out the RD as it's thin there next year plus, he'll be good help moving the puck and giving the young forwards an offensive dman to play with.

Severson trade: I'm not sure if the Devils are looking to get rid of Severson but if they are, this is likely something they'd want in return. A solid young prospect in Tullio, an NHL ready dman for next year in Samorukov along with the 1st and 3rd should be enough for to get the deal done.

Ullmark trade: If Rask plays well enough for Boston (which he probably will), I can see the Bruins moving on from Ullmark since Swayman is younger, cheaper and just as good if not better than Ullmark already. A 1st rounder should be the asking price and the oilers should be all over that.

Koskinen trade: Koskinen I think is still a good backup goalie in the league. His reputation has been ruined by the oilers' organization by letting him down with poor defensive efforts and overplaying him. I think he's a guy that can give you a good 25-30 games every season no doubt. Nashville could use a guy that takes some of the ease off of Saros before the playoffs and giving up a late round pick should be no problem for them.

Toffoli/Chiarot trade: I'm not too sure about the value on this trade but I believe it's close. Here, MTL gets a high end prospect in Bourgault, a young NHL player in Benson, a prospect goalie and two draft picks. Taking in all the pieces, the value adds up and should be fairly even on both sides. I can see the oilers replacing the 3rd with another 2nd or adding in Lavoie over Benson.

Koekoek trade: Pens get a solid depth guy who can play on the bottom pair or step in in case of injury for a small price.

I was just editing to explain the trades if you wanna look at it. But to repeat, the Sabers aren't gonna look to further rebuild their team for much longer. Barrie helps out the RD as they fall thin there next year and will help develop the younger guys being a vetran. Giving what I'm sure is a lower end 2nd round pick shouldn't be much to ask for.

Do not think Buffalo is in a position to take on these two guys, does not make much sense for them
Getting Term with toffoli and chariot likely demanding a lot of attention going to need to give up more in that trade

I'm sure Buffalo would consider the trade, I think exceeding their expectations this year has caused them to soon end the rebuild which they honestly should.

I can see the oilers giving up a little more in the MTL trade but I don't think Montreal finds a better package deal if they were to give up each individually. To add on, they wouldn't get back a player of Bourgault's caliber if they didn't package these two guys up.

I really think Risto was failed due to the poor players around him and bad coaching too. He's better than what Buffalo got out of him and I think Barrie with the right team can be the guy he was in Colorado. It's a small gamble as Barrie is still an NHL player but the value given up for him isn't much. If Buffalo doesn't want him, there's for definitely another team that does.

IMO the NHL is transitioning from knock-em-down defensemen to what the NHL to the turn of the last century "rover" defenseman.
Back then team played with 6 skaters and a goalie, the sixth skater being a rover who would jump into the play while the other two defensemen would hold their position.
One might say this style of defenseman started with Bobby Orr.
Onto the trade. Jokiharju is the only RHD signed next year, while Laaksonen appears to be ready to jump to the NHL that still leaves an open spot.
That second is next year and could be around the 50th to 62nd pick.
In the past 20 years Buffalo has drafted poorly in the second round with Compher, McCabe, and Asplund being the best.
With a 15% chance of getting a decent NHL player versus snatching a RHD who scored more pts than any defenseman in the NHL last year who is signed for two years beyond this season, I take the sure thing.
IMO he would be a perfect fit in the Granato system of encouraging the defense to "rove" into the offensive zone.

Turris has already cleared waivers and does not have to ever don a Sabre uniform.
If it only cost a late second to get Barrie, I make the deal.

As to the other trades, I think you did a great job probably need a little more going to MTL.

So you dump Barrie and then pay out the nose to replace him with Severson? You just re-instituted a flaw under a different name.

Barrie sucks if you watch him for long enough. Severson has far better analytics defensively which the oilers are in desperate need for.

Doesn't need to be the rangers but a team would be interested in acquiring him for sure.
