I can think of a few reasons not to…
-A right side consisting of 2/3 of Barrie/DeAngelo in the playoffs is a recipe for disaster. They’d need to make another trade to being in a vet D
-If they trade Raanta, they have to make a trade to bring in a backup
So, is it worth it just for a lottery 1st, when they’re in win now mode…to me, no. It opens too many holes in the immediate roster while adding a player they have zero need for in Barrie.
It’ll be interesting to see what they do with Bear, but I highly doubt they move him in a trade like this.
Barrie and DeAngelo aren't the 2/3. You know TDA is the 1RD, he plays with Slavin. Pesce is the 2, as he always is because he's old reliable. Barrie is an upgrade offensively on Bear 100% and yet still could be paired with someone like Skjei if he needs the 5v5 help. Barrie defensively isn't a turnstile (usually) he's not elite, but there's FAR worse. As I've said before, it makes sense.
They have to go and get a backup anyway. They cannot feed Lafontaine to the wolves, and Lyon as a backup long term is just not a good look. Makiniemi's hurt otherwise, he'd likely be next in line. Warm's also hurt, and they can't recall Kochetkov from Russia, so, yeah, they need a backup regardless of where Raanta is. If they turn that into a 1st, why the hell would you reject it? It's awful asset management to reject a deal like this.
And it's not like you're only allowed 1 trade per year. They could still make other deals if you think there would be holes!
