Yep, the Rangers are going to send a 1st round pick to MTL for Lehkonen instead of using it to trade for the likes of Miller, Pavelski, Giroux, Hertl or Chychrun.

Edmonton declines, Chiarot isn't worth a 1st to them. He'd be a 3rd pairing guy, Ken Holland isn't about to trade a 1st for a 3rd pairing rental. If you care to look, he's never traded a 1st for a rental in his history as a GM.

And you can't put a signing clause in a trade anymore.

Holland is not trading a first for a rental. switch that trade around. Chiarot for a 3rd rnd pick, if he resigns THEN it becomes a 1rst rnd pick. This would also not happen unless Barrie is traded before next season, otherwise The oilers wont have the cap space to resign Chiarot anyways.

You can't have a signing clause in the trade. It's illegal.

Yes i realize that, i was just making a point of how Chiarot is not worth a first, let alone a first with an additional pick.

Every team says No. In particular, Rangers aren't paying a first for Artturi Lehkonen, Anaheim isn't paying a second for Jonathan Drouin, and Colorado isn't paying a first and an excellent prospect to take on that anchor of a contract.

On the latter note, I see that you don't watch many Avalanche games. Erik Johnson is on a path to exceed 30 points and he still is an effective defender, so calling him a cap dump is a serious mischaracterization.

considering theres a lot of reports saying that the rangers are begging for lehkonen and that lehkonen could get a first, it is very possible

also to the edmonton fans, chiarot is reported to fetch AT LEAST a first and edmonton is very weak on defense. also oops on the clause so just do chiarot for a first

for the avs fans, price has proven recently that he is still one of the leagues best goalies (think last year cup run?), while erik johnson is sitting at 6M AAV on the third pairing. have fun making it past the 2nd round with an inconsistent kuemper.

considering drouin was reported to be worth a 2nd last year at the TDL and has been better now than then, i think a 2nd is very fair, not to mention also no matter what, making 6M on the third pair isnt good

You know nothing about hockey. Kuemper and Frankie have been fine. Price hasn't played since last year's cup run and has been in decline for about 3 years. EJ blocks the trade to MTL. Sakic blocks every number in the MTL area code because he's sick of ludicrous 'offers' from MTL.

A second might well be very fair for Drouin, but we have a wealth of young left-handed forwards that are on the upside of their careers, so Drouin doesn't really appeal to us.

The idea that the cap hits of players in certain positions shouldn't exceed X or Y is mistaken, in my opinion. Is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins overpriced as a #3C? Was Alex Tuch overpriced as a third-liner on the Golden Knights? Erik Johnson is on the Avalanche because at one time, he was a premier defender in the league, so his $6 million tag was perfectly fine. Just because a guy is aging out (he has only one more year left on his contract) doesn't mean that his cap hit disqualifies him from being useful. What matters is the total sum paid for a unit; Johnson's cap hit is perfectly acceptable on a team where Cale Makar and Bowen Byram are on their ELCs.

A little over the top, even if intended to be amusingly hyperbolic.

my fantasy team with kuemper would like to prove otherwise, and i also had him as a top 5 goalie going into the season because of how good colorado was

carey price is a 10million aav sub par goalie with below league average stats teh last 4 years, he is not one of the best goalies in the world, he is far from that
