No thanks. I like the idea of vanecek, i think sorokin and him can be a solid 1-2 punch but it would take more than him and cap dump schultz to get varly

in no way does Eller get Newhook from the Avs or another teams version/level of young player like newhook

I don't know about that. Schultz is a free agent after this year and Isles would free up $5 mill in cap space for next season by trading Varly. I kinda like the trade. That Islanders tandem would be great and would have plenty of cap space to improve other areas of the team

I just think they could get more for him.

This would be like JT Compher for Connor McMichael. Maybe even more imbalanced than that.

Don’t underestimate the best 3rd Center in the league, also Avalanche are in win now mode. They don’t need that maybe young prospect. Eller has plenty of Stanley cup experience. He can play on the PP and P.K + he filled in a lot of times on the 2nd Center when Backy or Kuzy was out. I don’t think Newhook can match the current needs for Avs

I'm not a big fan of any of these trades in their current state, but perhaps with some tweaks they could be alright.

Varlamov is tough, but I don't think it is right for DC. In a perfect non cap world I would be interested, but he'll take up more space over the offseason and make it even hard to sign Samsonov and Sprong. I don't think he'll waive for WSH anyway but that is a different story. I don't view Vanacek and Samsonov as the main problem in DC, so I don't see goaltending as a massive concern.

I like that Seattle trade right up until you hit Hathaway. He's been pretty good anywhere you put him this year, and I was pleasantly surprised with how he played with Ovi and Kuzy. I would perhaps remove Jarnkrok and Hathaway from the deal, play McMichael at center, and make the 3rd rounder a 2023 3rd rounder.

I'm not against Eller being traded, but Newhook is to unrealistic a prize for a 3C. I'd be happy if the Caps managed a 1st round pick or mid level defensive/winger prospect for him.

Newhook is playing 3C and is damn good at it. NO one is trading an rookie contributing at a hight level on a cup contender team for a 33 year old 3C 1 year wway from UFA
The statement of avs are in win now mode doesnt meant hey are making bad trades

Newhook provides more than you think, and this is an easy decline.

Lars Eller: 7 goals & 19 points in 37 games (.51P/G). 32 years old, 2x$3.5M remaining on his contract

Alex Newhook: 9 goals & 14 points in 32 games (.44P/G). 21 years old, 2x$908k remaining on his ELC

Avs are good keeping the player that’s contributing at close to the same rate, is 10 years younger, is far less expensive, and will continue to get better. Again, this would be the equivalent of Connor McMichael for JT Compher.
