I like the idea of a trade between the two teams AND for similar pieces. CAR has a ton of D prospects. This may be a year too early for those prospects to truly take over CAR's Defense, but this is a good fit. As far as the value. Faulk > Larsson AND we know what Chiarelli gave for him. CAR would be asking for EDM to either eat money (EDM won't want to do) or both good draft pick & prospect back.

I agree with exo2769, Faulk is better than larsson so they would have to give up more than nuge. Even ignoring the hall trade, it's not even right now. Nuge is not even close to a number 1 C, so they'd probably ask for puljujarvi or nuge and a fairly high pick

I agree with the comments regarding Faulks value, but RNH is a Center and they are more valuable than wingers, but ultimately it depends on what Carolina thinks is fair value. It is very possible that there will be more trades of marquee players than has ever been seen this off-season, so the value of a 1st or 2nd Dman could be quite variable.

As far as roster construction, Letestu should only be on the 3rd line if he is a RW, he is not a capable 3C. Honestly. Also, that is an overpayment for a 4C, anything over $1.25 million is too much for a 4th line player, so perhaps if you switched Boyle (he is only slightly better IMO) with Letestu, I would be more accepting of these moves.

I don't think Faulk is strong enough in his own zone to be a first pairing Dman, so I petsonally would be aiming higher. That being said, he has a fairly decent cap hit and a change of scenery and a reunion with his D partner from his first NHL seasons migh tdo wonders for him.

It would take far more then RNH to get Faulk out of Carolina, Try more like Leon Draisaitl for starters.

The problem is that Carolina overvalues Faulk and underestimates RNH skill as a #1C and the same goes for the Oilers just opposite.

Completely disagree. Faulk is good but he's not a #1 D. he's similar to a shattenkirk or yandle. not good enough to play tough minutes but an amazing 2nd pairing guy. slavin is the canes #1 D man as it stands now and that makes Faulk expendable. oilers have Larsson to play the tough minutes and Faulk to anchor the PP / play the easier minutes. RNH would benefit greatly with a change of scenery, especially to the eastern conference. his game is better suited for the east. he can be a good 60-70 points #1 C similar to Johansen or couture

As a more neutral party, I must say that while The Nuge is good, he is not necessarily Justin Faulk good, especially considering who Faulk is for Carolina. Without Justin Faulk, Carolina has no superstars, (they do have stars, I suppose, but not superstars or all stars). IMO, this trade would almost be akin to a McDavid-Eichel swap. Yes you get a good player in return, but he is nothing compared to what you give up.

Yes, it wouldn't be a straight trade - Edmonton would have to add a pick or prospect.

No. Montreal tried to get Draisaitl by offering PK Subban and were rejected. Faulk alone isn't enough for Draisaitl.

Having a $9M cap hit vs. $4.8M just might be a reason why, but I'd agree with Draisaitl being a beast.

It's funny how people say larsson plays the tough minutes, but he's 4th among oilers defenceman in average TOI
