Think I'd decline it too. Kappy is obviously better but also three years older. Zadina has much more untapped potential in him.

Plus it's not like DET is competing right now so they shouldn't deal prospects willy-nilly.

He has one goal since November and is looking like a bust after 128 games. He’s not some prized asset, just a guy that needs a fresh start.

He's 22 and got the first real start to his career during a global pandemic... Why don't you just pump the brakes on the "bust" garbage... Anyone who has watched him play knows he's doing things the right way and the points will come. He was electric with Vrana and their chemistry was fantastic, at bare minimum we're going to give him the rest of the season with some real time with Vrana before we make an organizational decision on him. The only way that would change is if a team makes us an offer we can't refuse and this one sure isn't it.

Man, people get really triggered by the B word. It's fairly safe to say that guys like Rasmussen and Zadina are not close to the players they were projected to be when drafted. The same goes for Barrett Hayton in Arizona. It happens. I really dislike it when teams hold onto players like this as their value diminishes instead of moving them elsewhere for a fresh start. Eventually, you end up trading 23-year-old Alex Nylander for a career fourth liner.

Honestly would prefer to keep Zadina over Kapanen. Just makes more sense with where the team is. He plays a really good all around game, just doesn't put up points. I feel a player like Kapanen could be acquired fairly inexpensively and I would gamble on Zadina figuring it out.

Also if you are trading for Kapanen for Zadina you obviously feel Zadina is better or could provide more for the penguins.

I don't believe Zadina will be much better than he is right now. I just don't see it. He's scored 5 goals. But Kap has only scored 9 goals on a stacked Pens team. So I think Yzerman declines.

I would prefer to trade Kapanen for Lafreniere.

2 goals in 40 + 5v5 play and you think the penguins are going to move you a guy who's got 9 in roughly the same amount.
That isn't going to happen.
Zadina 5v5 production is abysmal.

I'm just over Kapanen's nonsense and think players like Zadina should be moved to new places for a fresh start. He's obviously a depreciated asset and a complete lottery ticket.

Fresh start would be good, but when Vrana gets back it will be like a fresh start. Just prefer the lottery ticket in this deal.
