Offseason Flat Cap

Created by: YYZ019
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 27, 2022
Published: Jan. 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rule: No calling up players with 9 NHL experience

Like the Florida Panthers, the Minnesota Wild are going to have a difficult offseason because of bought-out contracts. They have a few RFA's needing to be paid, but not a lot of depth plugs are needed as of now so they can focus on what they need.

First, the RFA's. Most people can be bridged but three stand out. Fiala, Greenway, and Kahkonen.

First is Fiala, Fiala reportedly wants a trade out of Minnesota, additionally, he is having a monster season and will want a huge contract. There is a player that Minnesota is heavily rumored to be interested in and would easily replace him in the top 6. JT Miller is a player who will fill the role and act put up points alongside Ryan Hartman. Although there is 1 year left, he will allow for a little more cap flexibility this offseason.

Jordan Greenway is an interesting player. He's not bad but has not met expectations (in my mind). He will likely be satisfied with a slight pay raise but Minnesota can't afford that for a third liner. Edmonton is desperate for a bottom 6 overhaul so we can get some assets for him

Kaapo Kahkonen is a good goalie, but at the moment, he is the backup and Minnesota does not have the cap space in order to sign him long-term. So I'd sign him to a 1-year deal where he can prove whether he's the long term starter

Finally, the Wild just need a few depth plugs. Jordie Benn and Patrick Maroon seem to be appropriate choices for depth

The Canucks are gonna trade Miller for picks and prospects not roster players that are due for a raise

I like signing mr. Stanley Cup in Maroon. Not bashing the Miller Fiala deal because I think that is pretty close, but is that the best way to use Fiala as an asset going into 3 years of 15 mil in cap lost? Wouldn’t trying to get a younger guy similar to how they moved Granlund for Fiala?

Edited Jan. 30, 2022 at 4:18 p.m.. Reason: Edit
Correction: You are wrong about fiala wanting out. Who is the we you are talking about when you are a leafs fan?
No to Edmonton deal from Minnesota. Devon shore is a nothing 4th liner who won't play on most teams. 4th round pick doesn't get greenway.

While I don't normally agree with being that verbose. @GabrielJ nailed it in a nut shell.

I call bull**** on Fiala wanting out. That couldn't be the farthest thing from the truth. To OP... Provide a link, or GTFO.

@Jnowariak Did you read the description? This feels more like a troll job.

I like the concept of the Fiala trade. Wild who are in more of a win mode, keep Miller for one year. Yes they give up term in Fiala but they probably don't have the cap for him. Canucks can get term on a good player for one year of Miller. Canucks are going to have trouble swinging any deal without receiveing cap back in a trade.

I did not read the description…

But I don’t think the moves were crazy from somebody that doesn’t really follow the Wild. Even if Greener for a 4th and Shore is a bit of a statement.

It's ideal but I wanted to go off of the irl rumors of Wild player acquisitions. Miller is also a first-line caliber player who could replace Zuccarelo if he falls off

This is a player dump just to get a depth roster spot filled, Rossi and Boldy are coming, Greenway could certainly fetch a higher return but I've seen people value him at Zach Senyshyn. I chose to meet a need and a middle value

Can't, Athletic. It's an article from the offseason so things may have changed, this does not change the following facts:

1. There's a new Fiala trade rumor a day
2. He signed a one year deal in the hopes of getting a raise
3. Miller fits within the cap and is a solid replacement for Fiala

Mostly did that because Greenway is seen as a bust by some (mostly bruins and sens fans I know irl). He could definitely fetch a bigger return than the one I outlined

Devin shore is beyond bad. But doesn't matter because greenway was just resigned for 3 years

Depth plug who will likely be replaced at training camp. But yeah, the Greenway deal isn't the most realistic

Wasn't sure how much he'd get. Good move to keep him. But Shore is a depth plug

Minnesota is the one who did 1 year , not fiala! The media comes up with all kinds of rumors. Fiala never asked out

Fair enough. Let's just hope they can stay under the cap next year

Link it...

I have the Athletic. But unless it specifically came from Russo. I have a hard time believing it.

Was not Russo, that's for sure, think it was a Vancouver guy. I'll look for it
