Description
Stanley gets replaced by samberg. Samberg is simply a more stable guy who doesn’t get flustered. Basically, he’s more developed than Stanley and also has more upside in my opinion. Hence it’s time to move on from Stanley.

Schmidt has been good for the jets, (especially last night). However, he is the exact type of player that heinola would be on the jets in terms of role. Schmidt is puck mover who’s great on the pp. That’s heinola’s game in a nutshell as well. But heinola has potential to become better and a top guy very soon. Hence it’s time to move on.

I understand why chevy got Schmidt in the first place, but I question if it was the right move since we always probably had to move him out the following year to make room for heinola.

As for the trade, pretty simple. The bruins’ left side looks pretty weak on paper and Schmidt would make it better. I’d imagine a top 4 of grzelcyk-mcavoy and Schmidt-Carlo. However, bruins fans probably know better there. They seemed like the best fit. However, Florida seems like a good fit as well. Overall, was looking for a 3rd line player back.

I also moved Vesalainen to give him a fresh start.

Finally, got engvall as a defensive presence and depth

I don't think you get DeBrusk at that AAV. The hard part about trading for him now is because he has to be qualified at his QO and that's just too high for what he brings. If I'm any team interested in him, I'd wait til the Bruins just release him and sign him as a UFA at a lower cap hit. Yes there's risk he won't choose your team however.

Don't think Stanley is a fit in EDM. We need a rental LHD for now but can't really add any more younger guys. We have Samorukov, Niemalienen, and Broberg that are all young LHD and pushing to make the roster next year.

Schmidt does not fit what they need on D. Vesa has been terrible. Rather just hold onto Debrusk and the pick.

Copp would be of interest.

Fair enough. This would probably be in the offseason and the jets would talk to debrusk first. However, I get what you are saying

As for Stanley, some oilers fans would trade for stanley , some wouldn’t. Idk. Basically just any team for that price..

Fair enough on Schmidt.

Vesalainen hasn’t been terrible tbh and he’s actually really good defensively. The problem is that he’s not confident enough to use his shot in the nhl yet (most effective part of his game). And with the jets not giving him much ice time, I don’t see him progressing with us. So best to move on for both sides.

Copp would be a tdl deal so come back then. And it will cost at least a 1st or a good prospect and a 2nd. That’s my ask at least, which is more than reasonable for a guy who produces as a top 6 player and easily is the jets’ best defensive forward, (good or bad jets)

I don't know why the Jets would sell low on Ves and Schmidt and want DeBrusk back. The Jets already have trouble with their compete level, so they should not be targeting a whiny, entitled bottom sixer with a bad QO that makes him incredibly overpaid for what he provides.

I'm in favour of the Jets making changes, just not bad ones.

As good as Schmidt as been, I think that his past 2 trades will dictate his value. Hence his value isn’t more than a 3rd to me, even if he’s been playing like a top 3 d-man.

If you can think of a better trade, I’d love to see it. Not z lot of teams have the cap space for 6M in cap hit

Yeah, he has been good. If a 3rd is all the Jets can get for two players, then they should just keep them. Vesalainen really hasn't had much of a chance, so I'd like to see what he could do with proper ice time and maybe a new coach if the Jets decide to move on from Lowry. I just don't like giving him up for a run of the mill bottom sixer like DeBrusk that doesn't give the Jets anything they need or lack.

I'm basically saying if there is a trade there that helps the jets then make it, but just making a trade because it may be the only one available at the time, isn't likely going to end well for the Jets.

Well the idea behind the trade is to give heinola ice time. Not to “win” the trade

Okay, I get it. It's just, for me, I don't think the Jets have enough prospect depth to make trades without maxing the returns, but I see what you're going for.

I disagree. I think their prospect depth is at an all time high right now since chevy nailed the last draft. That’s why I don’t mind selling low on Schmidt. Also, as I said, no team will give up more for Schmidt than what he’s gotten the last 2 years, regardless of circumstances in my opinion

BOS #1/#2 need is:
* a top-flite LD, or
* a bona-fide #2C (cough-cough like M.S. rhymes w/ go-mightily Mark S.)...

Got any of those?

Schmidt isn’t a top ld but he’s a good number 3. As for scheifele, he’s not a 2c lol. And he’s not going anywhere unless you are willing to pay something you won’t be willing to pay. And tbh, I still wouldn’t trade him to Boston because there’s not much of value to the jets on that team…tbh

Never said it was going to happen...(edit - in BOS behind Bergeron he's a 2C)
The team need is what it is (^ ^ ^).
Unfortunately the pieces you suggest to go to BOS don't fill the need.

However, the trade does take away important "chips" or "trade-capital" for BOS to go get that 1-2LD/2C...

B's decline...
